I've been abstinent from drugs and alcohol for almost 7 months now.I'm doing step 9 of the AA programme, which involves making amends to people you have harmed in the past.I've been putting it off for months. Some of these people don't like me very much (understandably cos I was a dick) and I haven't spoken to them for years. I feel awkward contacting them again. It seems weird to message somebody out of the blue, meet up with them and say sorry for shit that happened years ago. I don't want these people to ask 'why are you doing this' - then I'll have to explain that I'm an addict.Any advice on how to message them? I feel I have to do this because I told myself I would do whatever it takes to stay clean and sober.
>>34331102>Any advice on how to message them?Talk to your sponsor. Get input from other people how they dealt with this step. You're in the program for a reason. Use the experience at your disposal. Learn from them.
>>34331102I made like 4 or 5 real amends. A lot of the people on my list I had just had no contact with for many years and talking to my sponsor about it we both agreed that it's probably not worth reaching out to someone you haven't spoken to in many years just to drudge up stuff from the past. A lot of your amends can be 'living amends'.
