>be me, 26>still live at home >pay parents 900 monthly in rent>help out with bills, groceries, etc. household chores>in return they let me live here and take me to work is this a really bad arrangement? I'm just terrified of cars. i swear i've tried, i've passed the written test like 3 times, i just can't pass the driving portion because i get fucking scared and start forgetting my left from my right. I almost ran into a gas pump once. I only ask because a family member pulled me aside and went OH BOY YOU AIN'T DRIVING YET?? STILL MAKING YER PARENTS CART YOU AROUND?? (mostly just to work or the grocer every other other week) it makes me wonder if I need to stop being a pussy and just force myself to do it but I really, honest to God feel I'll die terribly if I do
Samefag I specifically ask if it's a bad arrangement because his tone made it seem like I was bothering them but they've only mentioned it once in passing. To me, it's not so bad? It's a 10 minute commute most days, 20 if it's raining or something. Neither of them work. I still feel bad though
>>34331469I had a similar arrangement at your age, except for the driving part. I always drove myself around. I’m in my 40s now and I own my own house now but I still take care of my parents. If your parents don’t have jobs and don’t mind, you’re not being a burden to them. I would advise you learn how to drive only because your life will be greatly enhanced by driving yourself around in your own car.
>>34331469It's fair for your current situation, but you really should be preparing for the time when you can't rely on your parents for so much. Crippling anxiety is a reasonable excuse for not driving right now. It's not an excuse to never address the anxiety in the first place. And even if you can't ever manage to get comfortable driving, you should be thinking about how you'd stay afloat without it. Are you able to relocate, given your education/work history, to a place where you can just use public transport?
>>34331469>pay parents 900 monthly in rent>help out with bills, groceries, etc. household choresIf ur their child then the second negates the first, why would you pay rent when ur already paying all that shit and ur living in the family home doing/paying more than they areDon't ur parents give a shit about ur own future, use that money to save for stn elseAnd driving is ez, only the test is annoying af but driving itself is ez af stop being a pussy
>900you mean nine hundred dollars? are you for real? is this bait?shittest of a deal. 300 max, maybe. normally, you do 90% of the shores and you get to live for free, they are your parents after all. before i get bloodsucked by my very own parents id live in the fucken forest under a rock or log or under a bridge and save all that money, just out of spite alone already.wtf
I had the same arrangement at around the same rate but with a friend. I got a basement that would normally be rented to two people and carpool to work (can drive but would rather not) covered under general rent.
>>34331920My parents aren't too well off so they need the money. I could move out but I don't see the point in paying 1500+ for a box I'm managing to save at a decent rate (25k in bank, I moved in late 2024/started my job at the same time, maxed out IRA last year, have like 2k in ETFs) and I make like 65k at my dumb do nothing office job so it's somewhat comfortable.
>>34331469Don't feel bad about it. I barely got the licence, have bad anxiety too. And i contribute way less, still live with family too.
>>34331963i see.
>>34331976>>34331948>>34331644Thank you anons>>34331497This one especially. I manned up and asked them if I was burdening them and they pretty much told me I wasn't>>34331654Kek...
