Hi anons, this has been ongoing for about a year or two now when i noticed a bit of it on my canines, which about 8 months ago the enamel of which chipped off of one of them. This is my bottom front teeth. It is only at the base of my front teeth and top canines. nowhere else. I brush twice daily with a 1500ppm fluoride toothpaste and floss nightly. I started to do this soon after noticing this, prior to which I brushed whenever my breath was bad (maybe twice per week). I am really unsure what is causing this and if I need to go to a dentist as i cant afford it right now. Any advice? Im thinking it could be dehydration or vit D deficiency as those are things ive experienced reccurently in the past, but those are just guesses. When i brush my tooth i place the paste on the teeth for a moment before brushing, then afterwards spit but do not rinse. Also this specific tooth got really sensitive in the last week and is why i noticed it as i previously couldnt really see it properly. My teeth are straight aside from these ones specifically. I got some GC MI paste plus as i heard that is good for this.

Thanks :)

That is tartar which is HARDENED PLAQUE. Get your teeth cleaned at the dentist. Brush your teeth better EVERY DAY. You'll be OK.

Are you sure? Take into account the enamel chipping on the canine and the fact that this started when i wasnt brushing my teeth often. Also the sensitivity that started recently seems odd to be tartar, no?

Look up youtube flossing techniques. Up and down. Chipping looks fine. See a dentist. You likely have inflamed gums from the HARDENED PLAQUE.

this, get your teeth cleaned by a dentist before it causes your gums to recede.

Ive been following the correct way to floss since i started flossing and brushing seriously. Thanks for the advice ill go see what i can do at a dentists. What about the sensitivity? what's likely causing that? Also theres no way to clean this at home in guessing? as i said ill have to budget for a dentist trip.

Also is the canine problem likely related?

Shop around. You can get a cleaning for $100.

You should not try to remove HARDENED PLAQUE entirely yourself but some breaking off is a normal result of PROPER DAILY HYGIENE. Getting a cleaning is very affordable and a normal part of yearly dental exams if you get insurance. They are likely sensitive from you PICKING at them and from the gingivitis(inflamed gums from HARDENED PLAQUE!) Even without insurance it should not be that expensive to get looked at. Consider contacting a dental school or some other means of cheap or even FREE dental care.

No, you probably just chipped it by accident or slowly wore it down. Possibly you have BRUXISM!

gnarly dude, you need to floss more aggressively! pull the floss down as far as itll go and make a little loop around the tooth to get it really broken up. but youllprobably need dental intervention to clear this out. fwiw i get calcium buildup here too, its a result of our salivary glands being right there and some people are more prone to it based on the mineral content in your saliva.

ok thanks guys i actually found a dentist that has a student discount for my uni. I honestly thought i was losing my teeth to some deficiency. thanks again :)

take vitamins D3 and K2

so actually one more detail I'd like to add for anyone interested is that this arose roughly around when i installed an RO water filter for my drinking water. just some anecdotal data, might not be causation.

Dental plaque is a biofilm and there are some ways you can reduce it by using enzymes that help dissolve proteins. One of these is bromelain, found in fresh pineapple. If you start regularly eating fresh pineapple (especially the core) you may find this plaque buildup starts to reduce.
Another thing you can try is coconut oil pulling, or xylitol gum

Good luck anon. You are going to feel so much better when a hygienist is done cleaning your teeth.
