I'll give you the rundown on my situation
>Almost 25 years old
>Still living with parents
>No job experience besides fast food
>Just got Zoology degree. Probably getting Mechanical Engineering degree in a couple years because of a very lucky set of coincidences

At this point in life, what would I have to do to make it to where I can live in Japan? How would I have to reinvent myself?
>Why would you want to live in Japan?
I lived there and I feel incredibly nostalgic for those childhood years. I love the food, the cultural appreciation for nature, the high trust society, the safety of living away from joggers. Anime is cool but I complain more about it than compliment it so I wouldn't be moving there because I like chinese cartoons

Anon, there's no subtitles over there.

If you don't even know the language of the place you supposedly wish to live then you're either lying about your desires or you're a deeply unserious person who won't commit.

Be a bushido samurai and learn Japanese flawlessly, then the process will be easier because you could always bag a English teaching visa ezpz.
>>

I probably should have mentioned that I am willing to learn the language. I feel stupid for not including that. I learned a bit before the pandemic hit. Not a lot but about the same amount that someone would learn if they took two semesters of Japanese in college and I recently went to a local store that has Japanese imports and I was surprised at how much I could remember

The language looks daunting sometimes but learning it is really fun

I don’t know, but good luck getting over there with those qualities. I don’t say this to be mean, but I doubt they’re going to give you a work visa. You’d probably be better off just trying to appreciate wherever you live now and working on yourself. Get the engineering degree if you are able to. Go visit Japan if you haven’t in a while.
>>
Just do the classic, get a travel visa and never leave

>I don’t know, but good luck getting over there with those qualities
>I don’t say this to be mean, but I doubt they’re going to give you a work visa
Be brutally honest with me with no sugarcoating. I want to know what I have to do to change myself. I know for a fact that I am in not a good position and I don't have enough people criticizing me in life in a way that would benefit me

I haven’t looked into Japan, but like you I also have a desire to leave this rapidly degenerating country. But generally, companies will be putting more effort in hiring an international, so you need to be worth it to them. So becoming very skilled in whatever field you go into would probably be something you want to do.
I think the English teaching job is probably the easiest route, but from what I hear it sounds awful to actually do.
If you do eventually get there, you won’t be a citizen, and thats its own process.
>>
Have you ever considered just visiting Japan often instead? Life in Japan can be much more boring than you might think, and going through the trouble of getting a work visa may not even be worth it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aquaria_in_Japan
Japan has the largest number of public aquariums per capita in the world. Japan has one of the world’s highest concentrations of public aquariums, with over 130 facilities as of 2024, representing more than 1/3 of the world's total.
Do you have any interest in using your Zoology degree to get a job at an aquarium?

>Have you ever considered just visiting Japan often instead?
My desire for getting a ME degree is partially fueled by the fact that I would have money to travel, and I have considered just traveling often
>Do you have any interest in using your Zoology degree to get a job at an aquarium?
Yes. I want to specialize in Marine Biology and working in aquariums, whether it be taking care of the exhibits and the fish, or working with all the research specimens that big aquariums often have behind closed doors. Plus Japan's primatology centers are very appealing and I like the philosophy behind Japanese Primatology

You deserve to make it bro, good luck
>>
At least your reasons for wanting to go are better than most westerners who want to live in Japan
>>
>>34365157
Do you have family living there?
Do you have any Japanese ancestry?
If not, then no
>>
>>34366913
Pewdiepie has no japanese ancestry

You can't just move to ANY country. They have to let you in, and every country has immigration laws designed to keep foreigners from stealing jobs from the locals or going on the dole. Read the Japan immigration website to see what the rules are.

>appreciation for nature
Why jap aren't they all Megapolis type shi
>>
>>34368048
Japan is much bigger than its few big metropolitan areas. Most people live there obviously, but a very big part of Japan is rural with lots of nature etc
>>
>>34365157
You’re already qualified enough to “teach English” as an assistant language teacher.
That’s probably the easiest way for you to land a work visa. You’d most likely be working in a rural town.

OP here. The countryside is very beautiful and what you see depicted in anime is not that far off from the real thing. When I was living there, we would sometimes take routes through the countryside and you can't really understand the beauty of it until you're there, smelling the pollen, feeling the heat, hearing cicadas. Being a young kid who coincidentally was in love with catching bugs in Japan despite not knowing that much about how popular the hobby is there, I can't describe how soulful this countryside is for the imagination
>>

>I lived there and I feel incredibly nostalgic for those childhood years.
Usually I would judge you, but it is different because you lived there as a kid. Have you visited it since? Sometimes we romanticise what we had as kids and tend to blur out the negatives. Why do your family leave?

I would suggest taking a trip before you commit. But if you still really want to, you should be prepared to integrate into the society, just as any immigrant would. Learn the language and culture, obviously. But also, think about whether that is part of your identity. You call yourself an American, would you still see yourself as one living there? If so, I would suggest not moving.

>Have you visited it since? Sometimes we romanticise what we had as kids and tend to blur out the negatives
No I have not. I am also very aware of how the past probably isn't how I am remembering it. I often get nostalgic for Japan and all the other places I've lived thanks to my father's job and deep down I know going back there will not be the same. I can never go back to the late 2000s when a lot of the things I liked were popular and when radio music was still tolerable. That cultural zeitgeist is over and it will probably never come back. Even if it did, I would be an adult and not a kid who had nothing to really worry about besides school and friends

>You call yourself an American, would you still see yourself as one living there?
I will always see myself as an American and will always call myself an American. I know they will never see me as Japanese and so I won't fool myself into pleasing no one by rejecting reality and calling me something I am not. That said, I am not an American who believes in American exceptionalism and have a lot to say about my own country. I have no unbreakable loyalty to it and am hyper aware of its flaws.

I would have no qualms with adopting the culture and adhering to the norms. I am hyper respectful and always try to represent Americans in a respectful manner. Whenever I see stupid Americans making fools of themselves in Japan or any other nation with a high trust society, I wish they would just take those retards, put them on a post, and whip them until they are lightheaded
>>
>>34368048
No they are not
>>
>>34369137
Yes I'm aware from animus, I'm surprised they're able to maintain a decent level of environmentalism alongside the whole Megapolis development shit, like they don't end up some polluted shithole from industrialisation
>>
>>34372848
Even the megapolis they have is nice and tidy. It isn't perfect but it is probably the safest mega city to be in
>>
>>34365157
without a 4 year degree? basically impossible. japan rejects you.

after you get one? best shot is an english teaching program, or get sponsored by a company interested specifically in your degree. Basically the same as any other 1st world nation on earth...
>>
>>34373898
In the situation I gave, I would have two degrees in a few years
>>
>>34368472
Would they care if I don't have a degree in english?
>>
if you're american, get a job on a military base, they're not just for spouses and their children, but they might be getting more restrictive. typically if you're a skilled, certified engineer of some type you can get a good GS job- but those can be dependent on if you have prior military experience/connections. I randomly got a job at a gym, for instance, it was honestly luck of the draw because there was literally no one else like me there.

The only other option at this point for you would be teaching english. there's good options like JET, or black shit companies.

If you're american and you get a job on base, it will be quite hard to lose it and you're pretty much guaranteed a long and indefinite time in Japan, but it doesn't count toward citizenship, you're treated as if you're living on American territory.

Teaching is a good start, the jobs can be shit but if you hit the ground running after your initial training you can find better opportunities. I quit a black company and found a much better job working half the time for double the money, dispatching to a university.

Honestly Japan has a lot of opportunities for foreigners if you're willing to step outside of your comfort zone. It's easy to get into art scenes, modeling, tons of other stuff that require social know how and shmoozing, you have a foreigner card, use it. Don't beat yourself up too much on the language, but definitely learn it, people will speak english for you more often than not, so don't let not knowing hold you back. If you're willing, maybe get an old japanese wife and use that as your anchor.
>>
>>34377174
no, they want a warm body that speaks English natively. If you go to any given english school in Japan with Japanese teachers, you will find the teachers barely know English. You will mog them immediately, especially in the countryside, a good place to start your own school.
>>
>>34377214
The american military base route is easy immigration-wise, you don't need a visa, you can drive without any Japanese bureaucracy, you have to live off the base, in Japan, you get paid in USD... it goes on. It's good for as long as the US has Japan colonized, but the bases will have a lot of niggers and your bike will be stolen (on the base, but you can leave your bike unlocked at your apartment and it will be fine because you're in Japan)
In fact fucker, there's hot european bitches 5 years younger than you hitchhiking across Japan as we speak. I should know, I housed one for a month.

My dream is to return, buy an akiya, take regular trips to hostels and get a european wife. It will be hard, I have tried and they keep leaving, but I'm sure with the house it will be difficult for them to say no.
>>
>>34365157
Learn the language, apply for job, seek visa/residency
>>
>>34377217
Good thing I already have a four year degree
