I live with my parents and I've noticed our refrigerator has no outlet cover, it's been this way for years but I now have anxiety that a house fire might start someday. There's no way to get behind the fridge to install a cover since it's in a very narrow space. Moving it myself is impossible. What the fuck do I do? I don't want my home to be burned down :(
>>34366707Yeah, you're kind of screwed. All you can do is try to spend as much time outside as possible and plan for what you will do in the event of their demise and the loss of the house ALL AT ONCE. ALL AT ONCE ANON!!!
>>34366712It has been this way for 8 years at least......my mom does want to redesign the kitchen......maybe we can fix it when they do that...
>>34366707>moving it myself is impossible ask for help moving it? Your nerves ain't that stressed if you cant be bothered to ask for help
>>34366762Should I ask a friend to do it? If my parents find out they'll kill me but I feel unsafe since I've noticed this. I was thinking maybe a mini screwdriver could help? I might be able to reach the outlet with a dust brush on my vacuum to reach it, then use a mini screwdriver to install an outlet
>>34366775>if I move the refrigerator my parents will kill meIf it's not your parents, it'll be the electrical fire. Pick your poison or else it will be chosen for you.
>>34366786There is a small area I might be able to work with, I'll buy a mini screwdriver and see if I'm able to fix it without moving it, it might help
Talk to your parents about it. Don't make it look like a huge deal, just something you want to do to be proactive
>>34366830I try but they just say I'm paranoid
>>343668581. You might be 2. They're lazy and want to keep the status quoEither way its better that you fix something. Wanting to improve your situation and having the capacity to act on it is good overall.>>34366775Yeah, friend is best. Or neighbor
>>34366871I'll talk to my friend who does construction and ask him if he can convince my mom it's a problem. She'd listen to him probably. I know this is a problem though
>>34366707/diy/ & /wsr/ are also pretty good boards to ask about this, id recommend making thread there when this starts to die. I'd also ask an ai if there's anything that makes sense you could do (as much as ai is onions)
>>34366707The covers are just to prevent electrocution from shoving your fingers in there. The wires are probably wired properly if it's been like that for years. How exactly is it wired, is there still an electrical outlet or is it hardwired? It'll be fine. Additionally your switch board probably has fuses that will trip if there's a fault.
>>34366930Alright ty anon>>34367020Alright anon that does make me feel better. I'm more worried about dust accumulation and a potential spark, but the fact it has been like this for god knows how long DOES make me feel better which is why I'm not so urgent about it
>>34367020Also I think it's hardwired but it's hard to tell because I can only see it from a weird angle. I think it might be a little sunken though
You’re fucked. Hope you have your will writ
>>34368037I'm going to try to fix this myself
>>34368029if your fridge is hardwired meaning someone cut the plug off the end and wired it straight to the cable in the wall and taped up the join dust won't be an issueif not it probably still isnt an issue, dust and crap can build up in them even if they're covered and its seldom an issue
>>34366720It costs like a dollar for a cover and you can pull the fridge out. I was just kidding. It's likely fine.
>>34369068I talked to my friend who used to do construction and he said it's fine based on the pic I sent him>>34369128I can't move it but I feel more calm now
uh? thats normal. infact, there should NOT be a cover behind and at least a hand wide space between the fridge and the wall behind. how else is the warm air going to dissipate?shittiest bait(?) thread ive read this year.im just astounded, not even going to report you.
