I’m currently in the process of converting from a contractor to a full-time employee (FTE), but my background check is stalled. My CV lists my degree as Computer Science (CS), but my official transcript says Information Technology (IT).the context:>In college, my program was a heavy mix of programming, math, data science, and IT. We informally called it "ComSci," and one of my professor even advised me it was fine to list it as CS on my resume.>The university later officially separated the IT and CS degrees, but this happened after I graduated.>My previous employer and my current contracting agency both reviewed my transcript alongside my CV in the past and had no issues with this discrepancy.I haven't updated the education section of my resume since then, so the CS label carried over. I completely accept that it's my fault for not ensuring my CV perfectly matched my official paperwork, but I genuinely didn't mean to mislead anyone or lie about my qualifications. Now, the background check company is asking a lot of questions. I'm dealing with a lot of anxiety right now. Is there any hope for this situation, or is it highly likely the company will rescind my job and fuck my offer over this?
all you can do right now is answer their questionsmake a fixed version, so you're ready to submit it if they reject this one
>>34371999yeah trying to answer all of BG check questions as much as possible, don’t know if I should tell my HR for this as well or nah>fixed versionyou meant the fixed CV right? yeah I am spamming my CV everywhere right now just in case. also I got in touch with their BG Check support and they said my BG check are all cleared except the criminal check which they haven’t started checking yet but I got no issue on that but I don’t know if I could trust the frontline jeet support for assurance at all though..
>>34371874>Have IT degree>Claim CS degree>Am I fuckedThat depends on whether anybody with a say in the matter has a CS degree or not. Whatever your prof advised you, none of that is likely to matter to someone with a CS degree, because if their university had a CS degree then their IT degree program would have been very different from their CS degree program, and they're probably gonna judge you by what they know from their undergraduate days. Unless your IT degree plan included courses on number theory, compiler design, concurrency, and database fundamentals (not "here's how SQL works" but "If you need to create a database engine from scratch here's how to go about it") etc.
>>34372011>spamming my CV everywherewhat do you mean by "spamming" and "everywhere"?your application is in motion, its not the time to be sending out conflicting informationstop spazzing over nothing
>>34372011You've been given a perfectly valid reason, stuff like criminal records checks = bureaucracy = time. As anon above says, calm the fuck down.
>>34372017Actually I did have courses on database shits, I can share you some of my transcript here (not showing grade because lmao) I mean who the fuck teaches you to code beginners to intermediate Java and Python to an IT student, not to mention I also do have math classes like discrete math and concurrency as well.
>>34372040I‘ve already submitted my contractor resignation letter to them because they need to move forward with my conversation pre-background check.resignation letter = no more servance pay from any party = if they canned me because of this reason, I’m screwed. I only have like 6 months of saving. who the fuck knows what’s going to happen in the next 6 months.>>34372051I mean could you really trust the “customer support” statement though. call me schizo but I really doubt they know what they’re doing. plus last Monday they were asking my about my Transcript that has “Computer Science” degree in it.
so is AISlop telling the truth or is it a ticket for more trouble though. I don’t know if BG Check will actually flagged the discrepancy in the end that they were asking for clarification as I’ve mentioned above.
>>34372065That is very obviously an IT course of study, not a CS one.
>>34372102>I mean could you really trust the “customer support” statement though.Could I? Yes. You're obviously determined not to though so that doesn't help you obviously. I gave my advice, we're done here. Good luck anon
>>34371874If they ask about it, just tell them about the split and you’ll probably be fine. The academic program you listed is pretty much what computer science is. It’s basically what I studied when I got my bachelor of science in computer science.
>>34371874>this happened after I graduatedthen it doesn't apply to you. if you already work at the company, they've seen your capabilities and you are a competent worker, they won't give a fuck. trust. in the real world the degree merely gets your foot in the door. once you have experience, that's all they care about
>>34372839Hmm, I compared most colleges curriculum and they don’t have programming courses though, maybe a basic one for scripting and that’s it.>>34373363fuckin hope so, worked for them for 2 years as a contractor now and previous company were cool about my CV and transcript as well and never checked again.>>34373011thanks anon, but probably from now on I should just edit my CV to show as IT degree now, not worth the hassle to explain and getting anxious about it.
>>34373827The fact that you think computer science = programming courses really tells everythingTo be clear I am not a CS degree holder and I don't respect CS degree holders, but you sound like you don't even meet that bar.
>>34371874>>The university later officially separated the IT and CS degrees, but this happened after I graduated.so go take the 6 credits or whatever it is bridge the trivial gap in degrees
>>34374047of course I didn’t meant to claimed that I am fully a CS grads, it was just a series of misunderstandings and my own fault for not checking documents back when I created this CV which the profs claim plus I didn’t care about college back then I just wanted the degree so that I can go on with my life. what I did earlier was I just wanted to compare the colleges courses and mine to see if it’s interchangeable.>>34374091which it was easy lol, I was graduated like 5 years ago
>>34374207>didn’t meant to claimed that I am fully a CS gradsThat's good, because you have absolutely no idea what a CS program covers. I do have a CS degree and the only programming course in the degree plan was assembly language programming, all the other courses were about something else and the programming stuff was just something you were expected to pick up yourself within the first week or so of class. Taking Operating Systems? You'd better figure out C real damn quick because you're gonna be working on either Minix or Linux in a few days. Taking Models of Computation? Better figure out Smalltalk, Prolog, Erlang and NESL real damn quick. CS grads otoh do have a good idea about what IT courses teach because when one of our friends flunked out of CS, it was IT that they always switched to.
>>34374568>>34374047>claims that don't hold a CS degree>suddenly have oneop just don't listen to this asshat and saving your mental for your own trouble
>>34374601>hay guise did you know that Anonymous is one userGo be retarded someplace else.
>>34374615you do realize that op just wants an /adv/ice not some nigger bragging about his worthless degree circlejerk >>>/g/ is there btw
>>34374621>nooooo stop explaining to OP why his falsehood was so egregious stop being mean you mean meanieNo, I don't think I will, and no amount of your faggoty simping for OP will convince me.
>>34376533So yes, I did fucked up, anything to save in this situation
