I got an important job out of university, and I make good money. Unfortunately though, I’ve been full-time for almost a year, and I’m still as clueless as ever.

I have coworkers with just 6 months more experience than me that are miles ahead. It feels like there’s this giant gap that I won’t ever close and it’s terrifying. I have to ask people basic questions everyday, and I hate it. I hate being helpless.

WHAT DO U NEED ADVICE ON NIGGA THIS AINT /VENT/

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, how did you navigate it?

There's always going to be people ahead of you because life is chaotic and everyone matures and grows and advances at different rates. Measuring your life, accomplishments, or possessions against others breeds jealousy, inadequacy, and unhappiness.

by realizing there's no shame in asking for help. people are genetically predisposed to have different rates of learning and retaining things. you don't live in the corporate world of tokyo or seoul where people expect 100% maximum effort and growth all the time.
besides that, have you done anything to make yourself less clueless besides moping?

It’s easy enough to say this but obviously there’s a limit to this sort of thinking. Some people are just better than others. And so it gets really hard to tell whether I just need more time or am not suited for my work.

Ask a million question and read relevant information. Try to jump at every opportunity to apply knowledge. It seems like that’s all I can do.

Smells like imposter syndrome to me. Has anyone actually told you you're dead weight or anything like that at work or is this just something rattling around inside your own skull?

then continue doing so. unlike Sisyphus, this boulder you're pushing actually goes somewhere. just because other people pushed the boulder faster doesn't mean your efforts are in vain.

It doesn’t matter. I don’t think they’d say it outright, but I can feel the judgement on occasion.

You’re right. Only one way to find out what I am truly capable of. But God, it’s painful.

Meds, now.

What meds?
