I had drug induced psychosis almost a year and a half ago and it still fucks with my mental health. Won't get into what I felt but I am very afraid that I am spiraling into schizophrenia and I want professional helpThing is that I am aware that being diagnosed as a schizophrenic can hurt me in some ways. No chance at joining the military, and from what I hear, some psychologists will view me as a person with agency. Some will always see me in a condescending way that will make it difficult for them to take me seriouslyHow do I get help for my possible schizophrenia and minimize the amount of drawbacks I get? Should I just get tested anyways? Is it really better for me to get diagnosed and be barred from the military?
>>34377906Apparently you have two options.1. Live with schizophrenia and join the Armed Forces.2. Alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia (since it is incurable) and never join the Armed Forces.Only you can make this decision.
>>34378022nta but I was already in the armed forces and I had a meltdown during basic and punched my DI and a bunch of NCOs. They kicked me out for insubordination and provoking a fight. What do I do now?
>>34378050Why would you want to join the military, you'd be dying for rich people who don't care about your wellbeing. Go to a psychiatrist.
>>34378090well it was a service academy with a full scholarship and I didn't want to be in debt. The low passing rate allured me too because my peers are obnoxious retards who bragged about them getting T10 and ivy league offers and I just want to one up them
>>34378286Basing your career and life goals on one upping everyone around you will always lead you to depression because you'll never quite be enough. You'll find a new crowd in the higher parts of society that have even more than you. If you have psychiatric issues and you know you do, youre never going to achieve anything in your unstable state. Reevaluate your goals and figure out how to manage your mental state before trying to be the top dog
>>34377906Professionals are forbidden by ethics and law from telling anyone about your mental state UNLESS they judge you to be an immediate danger to yourself or others
I would go to a church and explain this situation to a pastor or someone. They would at least want to help you and MAYBE there is a therapist in the congregation who would talk to you off the books or whatever there is probably an easy way of getting lithium because its just an element. Might be able to self medicate that way but you would want to talk to someone still
>>34378376Thanks anon, I am undergoing dbt now but it's not going well since i'm withholding alot of information
>>34377906Psychosis is a symptom. It doesn't always mean it's schizophrenia. I had drug-induced psychosis and lost my grip on reality too, lasting a year or two. It eventually fizzled out of my system and now I've been more grounded in reality than before the psychotic break.

>>34379845>It eventually fizzled out of my systemThat's good. It's been about 1.5 years since I had psychosis and I haven't gotten high since>>34379347Not to be rude but I am avoiding religious people in this situation. I have seen how mental illness is handled in highly religious households and I don't really want to be told that this is something that just needs prayer. I want to talk with someone who has a working understanding of neuroscience and psychology
>>34379347I would be very cautious about going to people you know who are religious about these issues
>>34377906>how can I have my cake and eat it too?schizophrenia sufferer= schizosimple as
>>34377906it's been a long time since I've had any drugs that could induce schizophrenia. maybe you just need a drug antidote.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bPcgoaZjsu8
>>34384001>maybe you just need a drug antidoteI haven’t had any drugs besides alcohol for so long that I probably have no thc in my system
If any pro judges you, that pro isn't being professional. What you do is find someone else. Labels will get stuck on people regardless of their situation. You don't have to identify with the labels, of course.
I was diagnosed with schizophrenia 5 years ago. Some doctors are judgmental but most are fine, especially if you take the meds. If my pcp refers me to other doctors she puts 'compliant with medication' and 'stable' in there. They legally can't out you as a schizo. You can just lie to people and say the antipsychotics are for treatment resistant depression.
>>34388188>They legally can't out you as a schizoIf I get diagnosed, would they be required to notify the military?
>>34389037No, but the military has MHS genesis and can see your medical history. They won't let you in but if you somehow trick them you'll be dishonorably discharged. They will find out because joining will trigger positive symptoms. Your best bet is to get your symptoms under control with a doctor first and then work with the military recruiters to find a job you can do without relapsing. I know I said you should lie, but I meant lying to normies not the US army. Note that this only applies if the doctor determines you are schizophrenic. Positive symptoms are hallucinations, delusions, incomprehensible speech, etc.
>>34377906>person with agencyBro, you get that if you freak out all the time. If you try to be chill about it, it won't be an issue.
Meds don't really help anon. Did you know they're all made from petrochemicals? It's true. You'll go from a healthy guy who hears voices to a fat sleepy drooling guy who hears voices, whoopdedoo. What can you do? Meditate your tits off. Breath work is good. I'm sorry you have to deal with this but you don't want the in and out of hospital dick doesn't work lifestyle, trust me. I hope you find a way to deal with it.
