How to create motivation from nothing? I'm attending french classes because it's recommended for students of my degree. We are supposed learn on our own as well, the teacher said, but I don't really feel motivated. How do I create motivation to do so? I don't even have a clear goal with learning french. Maybe It would help me IF I do undergraduate research but other than it's too loose: to be able to read Sartre. Gosh, how much practice will I need until I can read his texts? That's why I don't have too much motivation, since I don't have a strong desire nor goal.

it sounds like you're thinking out loud, anon

you're having trouble dedicating enough time to learning french?

by doing the thing and seeing why it's fun. until you do it you won't know what the fun part that gets you to keep doing it is

There are only two reasons for doing anything - it's fun, or it's an investment toward future fun.

(Define fun however you wish - enjoyable, fulfilling, interesting, whatever)

If knowing French will help you further down the line, as your advisors evidently think, then keep that goal in mind - "Learning this will get me a better job" or whatever

You need a strong reason to learn how to read Sartre in French. You can’t make yourself do very difficult things for no reason. It’s impossible.

Sartre is an absolute faggot, be a man, learn German and read Nietzsche.

Also, if you can't do it on your own, do it together with someone else.
Find just one person to study with and maybe you'll succeed. Just look for someone that looks aright and ask directly if they already have someone to study with.
But don't waste time on that humongous faggot Sartre, read Nietzsche instead.
