Anyone here really enjoy their job? Current or former. Tell me about it. What it is, why you like it, how you found it, etc. I'm still trying to figure out what I wanna do, so I think it'd help to hear some experiences.
>>34383458Do you like Temple of the Dog?I am a lifeguard in the summer. My mom got me that job. It's nice, there aren't many people at the pool. I get to swim and tan. Its kinda boring sometimes, but I am happy about it.
>>34383458Biotech. Every once in a while there's a period where I hate my job, but most weeks I love it, sometimes I get bored on the weekends and can't wait to work more. I basically play Diablo 2 with cells and identify rare enzyme/gene drops to support a build (project). Has a mix of lottery, creativity, and objectivity that work together nicely. The worst part are the meetings/presentations as I'm a bit of a sperg. I started on my path towards it because my parents demanded I be a STEMfag and would have disowned me and kicked me out if I chose anything easier to major in. Worked with a good younger professor in undergrad, stuck with him through grad, made a discovery that got me on a Nature paper, and then got hired almost immediately after finishing my PhD. Competitive market though, and outsourcing to India is really ramping up.
>>34383458I'm a college instructor. I get paid (not a lot - I could double my pay in business) to do what I would rather do than almost anything else. I absolutely love being in the classroom and helping thinking happen. It sometimes feels like conducting a symphony orchestra, bringing out the best in the students. I don't particularly like grading papers or being on committees, but they are acceptable prices to pay for the good stuff.
I work in a workshop that makes carbon fiber sheets and parts. I started as a technician and it's a very chill job. I made a few improvements around the shop, learned the CNC side, was always ready to do more work and now they want me to write the manual on the place. Lots of hammer and screwdriver kind of work, physical labor and I enjoy it. Usually pretty happy to go to work, it was a respite when I was in a bad relationship. I found it on indeed looking for technician jobs.
