23 year old zoomer here, what did people my age do for fun before the internet (let's say 1980s and 1990s)? Let's also say I have no friends and girlfriend, how would I find them if I lived in this era?
Mall was real, you could just approach people thereusually was an arcade with things to play. there were like street fighter or mortal Kombat machines everywhere and you could make friends like thatthere was also always pickup soccer or basketball on the campus field at college. youd show up and then after you'd get invited back to the dorm or whatever house always had people overafter that you'd kind of just always show up to the house where people hung out at, there was no real "invitation"no girls had cars basically so eventually one of the girls your set hung out with would try to call people to drive transportation to where everyone hung out and on the way over you could talk if it was meant to be and one night there'd be a party and after some Smirnoff ice you'd start kissing

>>34383638LOL 34yo Millennial here. You're talking about kids who lived in the city. When I was growing up, the best you could hope for is you encounter a random kid in the woods. The closest store was a tiny gas station that was like 5 miles away. Sometimes you'd encounter kids there. Of course there was school and you could swap phone numbers. When MSN messenger finally caught on, I was in high school and that made things easier, but half the kids in my school still had dialup so it still sucked. When I was in high school maybe 20% of kids had a car but nobody ever had any gas money since the nearest big city was like 50 miles away. Living in a rural area really fucked up my life. I never learned social skills, how to talk to girls (only like 1% of the guys in high school even had a girlfriend), and I had no real friends outside of school. It's hard to maintain friendships when your nearest friend lives 20 miles away and you have to coordinate with your parents because no one can drive and/or has any gas money.
>>34383619my country is still very social and offline and people just go to public places and meet people with similar interestsI used to go to the arcades because I was into videogames, recently I've started going to kpop events because I'm into kpopand I've ended up meeting people every time you have to be casual about it tho, people feel desperation, both for friends and for partners, it has to appear like it's happening naturally and there is no problem if the relationship doesn't advance further than acquaintances, people don't need the stress of dealing with people going through something if you talk to them or not.
>>34383619Clubs (in the sense of shared-interest groups)Clubs (in the sense of dancing places)Sports (as participants or fans)General unofficial hang-out places (mall, park, etc)
>>34383619you would live your life normally doing what was locally available and end up meeting people or just hang with your cousins, saying you have "friends" was seen as childish and uncool so you would instead "know people"
>>34383619You grew into it. There wasnt a conscious decision.
>>34383619At 23 in the early 2000s I suppose Beer weed sex and rock n roll. You could do 3 of those with no gf or friends. But rock n roll is nearly dead at this point so hurry up.
>>34383619Can't compare it to today. People are traumatized nowadays. You could walk by someone and say hi to them and it wouldnt be weird. I blame social media for putting retarded ideas into people's heads
>>34383619this shit >>34383638and parties and driving around
>>34383619Met people. No one had phones or Internet so you had to meet people. It was better.
