>be me, 33, metro Atlanta area
>bachelor's degree from University of Georgia in Mass Communications/film production equivalent
>have 15 years of experience in videography/editing, pretty damn good at it
>have dead end job with county government making $22/hour.
>have horrible boss
>need to find new work
>have no idea what to do

My dream is to go into work for myself, but I'll take anything right now. Not to get rich, but man. I feel like I am just shy of poverty levels here. My SO is a damn nail tech with no education or training and makes almost double what I do annually.

I own my own house, and my bills are paid but after all that I have like nothing left over. My goal is to bring home $4000 a month. Right now, it's about $2600. I just need new work, idk.
I feel kind of desperate to get out of here, but don't know.

My current job does have pluses, though.
>great insurance, and I have health issues that makes that very necessary
>very, very short commute. Less than five minutes.
>it's actually pretty fun and laid back.

What would you do in my current situation?

You don't even have some options for us to appreciate? Like, I don't know what your options are, or which ones you actually would like to give a try.
You also mentioned about health issues, so idk.
Your degree doesn't seems very helpful either, not without the right connections.

You already know your answer, OP.

First off, do not quit your job without another one lined up UNLESS your mental health is reaching crisis levels. Always remember that the worst they can do is fire you. You are not going to get shot because your boss hates you, and if he does attack you, well, the local City of Atlanta will be giving you a six-seven figure settlement.

Problem is finding another job is difficult right now. Are you looking for videography/film jobs, or anything? I would look for ANYTHING tangentially related to your career and experience that pays more and GET OUT, then find that lucrative film job.

In the interim, you could increase your income with gig work. Have you considered looking around for gigs on craigslist/fiverr? It's not glamourous by any stripe, but it will show (at least to a guy like me who is an outsider who partakes in hiring at our company) you are still interested in videography and are trying to keep your skills up to date.

Kek, my retail jobs makes more money. Why not start a youtube channel? Think of it as a portfolio. You won't get noticed without proof that you can make work that gets views

I would look into part time work that you can do on the weekend or at home. Losing that health insurance and very short commute will not be good, so I would recommend you keep your current job.

It sometimes seems that half the Hollywood films I watch list funding from the Georgia Film Commission in their credits - evidently the state gives funding to get them to film even one bit in Georgia

Work for them, or get info from them on who's coming to the state to film, and get work with those crews
