It's probably from wasps & scots-irish in colonial america, which itself is a little bit of a mindfuck but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to learn more about the period-accurate and older parts of my European history. I also don't really know how to see myself ethnically. I believe in people reclaiming their ancestry, but how am I supposed to get in contact with a cultural connection to being English or Nordic the way I can with my african ethnicities?

I'm Irish myself in northern ireland and i'm 85% gaelic irish and 11% Scottish and 4% Norwegian. So I definitely have some planter/ulster scot blood, but how much is debatable. Ulster and Scotland are gentically close and the norse gael admixture would had been there before the plantation, so I could be more Irish than the result would say. Scots-Irish are the coloniser british. They colonised Ireland, particularly Ulster backed by the English and then many of them went to america later. You don't consciously feel connected to some historical events just by reading about it or hearing it, you feel connected to it by seeing it. You don't see it as a historical fact, you put an individual person who participated in that fact that you have the heritage of. It's a complicated feeling but regardless, I feel some kind of affection for the part of the world they come from. I'm someone who the idea of family matters, and it's hard not to be consistent and apply that here, so I don't think it's wrong.
