You ever been in a situation where some stranger you don't know in the distance says "good morning" in your general direction but you're not sure whether to respond cause they might be saying it to someone behind you?What do you do in a situation like that so as to not look like an idiot?

Half-respond so you have plausible deniability. I’d half wave and pretend to acknowledge the stranger. If they’re not talking to me they won’t notice. If they are, they will noticet. professional member of society

And right as I was going to respond to them, oh shit, someone behind me that I didn't know was there says "heyyyyy" and they go hug that person. They weren't looking at me, they were looking at the person behind me, and it was confusing as fuck cause they were basically looking through my head.
