We had one person who made a thread here asking how to sue their school because their kid wanted to go out of class to drink at a fountain and teacher said no and the kid passed out of dehydration. The parent-anon never bothered taking the kid to a doctor, never even bothered packing water for their kid before school, they just assumed every teacher would allow kids to do whatever they want during class time. And because the parent deprived their kid of water (refusing to pack them a fucking bottle of water) their kid passed out and now it's all the school's fault apparently with a lawsuit in the works

That's the shit education workers fear and they make sure your wings are clipped as a teacher to play it safe. You are not allowed to discipline these narcissistic zoomer gremlins apparently.

Not OP, I work in a school and some teachers absolutely are cunts about water and will use the "privilege" of getting water as a punishment. Especially towards students with behavioral needs who will then have even more trouble managing those behaviors, and therefore be punished by the teacher even further. I have also seen teachers and even admin on occasion do plenty of other harm. Sometimes the kids/ parents are objectively the ones who are in the right. In fact, I would say it's often.

Should the kid's parents have packed him a bottle? Probably. But there's plenty of parents who can't afford to do that financially, which schools are supposed to serve, and who reasonably expect their children will be about to access the water fountain at least a few times a day. Or parents might forget. Or, yeah maybe they are just neglectful assholes. But it's still on the teacher additionally if they're denying children water long enough that they pass out.

Shitty parents make the job harder. So do shitty teachers. And there's a lot of both of them. If my child passed out at school after being denied water you can bet I would be right there suing the school too. And I have a lot of co-workers whose children attend this district and are absolutely furious at the district and fighting them for one reason or another, rightfully.

Anon, you didn't even consider the fact that children staying in shelters would be attending school. I'm not going to play the game you're at where I pretend I know that you weren't poor growing up. But your experience with poverty is not every experience with poverty. And more often than not when a student tries to get water and a teacher refuses, it's a legitimate request and the teacher knows it too. And at least half that time, they're saying no as a consequence and not because they intend to let them go later. I have seen it plenty of times. Education is rife with teachers who fail to respect or get to know their students.
