What the fuck do people even mean when they say "find/create your own meaning in life"? Like you just decide "I want x to be my life's purpose"
It's a way to live your life. It means find what matters to you, what you want to get up out of bed for, what motivates you to do something with your life. Maybe that's have kids, maybe it's make music, maybe it's being the neighbor that's always ready to host a barbecue, maybe that's finishing a marathon. No one but you know what's important to you or what you're passionate about. And those things can take time to discover and develop. You write your own definition of who you are, and the least important things to know about you will be your career. So who are you?

>>34396809>Like you just decide "I want x to be my life's purpose"Well, yeah.
>>34396843Sometimes you need to shift strategies. In that case, focus on taking things day by day and working to process that grief. Focus on leaning on others, honoring their memory. If over the long term, you find yourself still stuck in survival mode, or things are particularly severe from the start, look into grief counseling. Eventually, even with a terrible loss you should be about to start to find additional purpose. Or ways to apply the former purpose to the future, for example thinking about what they would want for you.

>>34396809>Like you just decide "I want x to be my life's purpose"Yes, exactly. X can be anything from "I want to be a cowboy when I grow up" to "I want to be a good person."
>>34396843The you accept an altered reality and adjust your goals to something within it
>>34396809>What the fuck do people even mean when they say "find/create your own meaning in life"? Like you just decide "I want x to be my life's purpose"You don't randomly decide what it is; you search for it until you find it. The point is this that you won't know what is meaningful to you unless you actually think about it a bit, and try a few things, see how they feel, see if they seem important or worthwhile. Once you find something that matters to you, then you decide to pursue it.>>34396843>What if the thing I wanted to get out of bed for was a person and now that person is dead? Then you keep looking until you find something else.
>>34396809People don't typically look for "meaning" when they do things. They just do things because it's fun or because it's what they're expected to do. Trying to find meaning in things is weird, something that people who arent normal do. The average human is not an intellectual, they're boring retards that watch sports and consume alcohol all day. When they say "find meaning", what they actually mean is find the one thing you love doing that you wake up everyday excited to do (enough to stop you from killing yourself)
>>34396809Deciding might be a push in some cases, but yeah, kind of. They mean that at some point, you can either reflect, decide and then act to create meaning. Or sometimes life might just throw it at you in a way you didn't expect. A lot of people who "choose" a meaningful path, will fuck it up somehow, or might never realise it. But then some people will just have a situation almost kind of thrust upon them and suddenly find meaning they weren't expecting.
