I recently found out that likely have some sort of terrible brain thing, like the kind that football players get. They can't diagnose anything but the doctor basically told me he has no idea what's wrong with my brain or how to fix it, and I really can't afford seeing another specialist. It's also caused by a really lame reason, when I was younger I had a very bad habit of hitting myself in the head very hard wherever I was upset until I got dizzy or passed out. The thing that is likely brain damage makes me both really depressed sometimes and very irrational and angry other times and there's no cure and it will only get worse with age. So I dont know what there is to do now, I'm struggling with my education and I will likely never be able to hold a stable job or a relationship. Did I fuck my whole life up when I was a dumb child?
So... A concussion?Anyway, you're wasting your few brain cells wondering whether you're dumb enough to do things. Just fucking do them and if you flop do something else more within your non-flop range (iteratively, trial and error)
To clarify it's not a concussion, it's some kind of long term brain damage caused by repeated concussions when I was a child. A regular concussion would go away at some point and the symptoms would too but I've had my symptoms for 2 years now and it's expected to get worse. This will include a cognitive decline and other things
>>34404820assuming >>34404829 is correct it depends on how severe the injury was. I had a serious concussion during football and luckily got used to a lot of the side effects (light and sound sensitivity, short term memory issues, difficulty with attention) and moved on with life. Brain injury is no joke, so consider drastically changing your life path to avoid more injury. It's a speed bump when it comes to development but you need to push through. A lot of what I though was a disability became personality as I aged, while I still despise raves and barely know peoples names instead of being a downside it's transformed into being a refined youth with "great taste" in party and it being "an honor to have your name remembered for someone without the ability too". Don't put yourself down, use your disability to your advantage.
>>34404847So Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)?
>>34404820>I really can't afford seeing another specialistThe USA - the only country in the world without free medical care
>>34404820>I really can't afford seeing another specialistFind the money. This is the rest of your life we're talking about - what could possibly be more important than that?
>>34404847What symptoms? That you get angry and depressed? That has nothing to do with your brain or any damage that could have happened to your brain. It has entirely to do with your attitude. Fix your attitude and the problem will go away. Even people with actual Down's syndrome can learn how to be more patient, tolerant and less irritable and morose. Your brain does not limit or inform your attitude in any way. There's nothing wrong with you that meditation and humility can't fix.
>>34404820Okay I'm an SLP who works with people with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). First, you can be successful with a TBI, it is significantly harder though. Besides that, what other symptoms are you having besides the anger and depression episodes? Are you having difficulties focusing (e.g., changing tasks, remaining focused on one tasks)? Difficulty remembering things? If you're having a difficult time with school, I am assuming you might have some difficulties with organization, planning, problem solving, impulsivity and/or etc. There are all apart of cognition and are called executive functions. If you are struggling with these as well, please save up to see someone.Would your primary care doctor consider recommending an SLP or neuropsych for cognitive therapy? If you don't have insurance or any other assistance and are heavily motivated, I would recommend the Smart, But Scattered book. This book allows you to break down your strengths and weaknesses and gives you tips and advice to help with each one. This is difficult to deal with by yourself, so PLEASE find the money. Genuinely, cognitive therapy is your best choice and I have seen first hand how much it makes a difference.Additionally, if you live near a university with an SLP graduate program, you could possibly get free/discounted therapy with student SLPs. My graduate program has an "aphasia support group" that was actually just free therapy conducted by students.
>>34404820I’m sorry to hear anon this broke my heart. Sending love your wayMy best advice is to first cut out all drugs, alcohol weed coffee everything. Fix your diet, focus on eating 5+ servings of vegetables daily. The only way you can save yourself from being controlled by your emotions is by being kind and loving yourself. Look into spiritual healing and meditation and yoga, the chakras are a fantastic model for learning about this. >>34405843Money will help sure, but true healing beds to come from within. I did cognitive therapy on and off for 8 years before I was able to overcome my energetic blockages. t. had a TBI at 16
>>34405776From what I hear, the free health care in other countries is only for basic health. It’s not for complicated things like CTE. Also, there are long waiting lines for the available free health care.
>>34406616I got two and a half years dialysis and a kidney transplant and all my lifetime follow-up care without getting my wallet out and no I'm not on welfare either. I think your masters might be lying to you.
