in my country the govt pays u if you go to nursing school, but you have to finish it, otherwise you'll get into debt.i can choose between hospital and psychiatry. which field should i choose and why?
Easily hospital because psych fucking sucks big time. Not even a question.
>>34405844I'm not sure how we're supposed to know which of those two things you might be better suited for if you haven't told us anything about yourself.
>>34405902really? i thought from reading plebbit that medsurge/bedside is worse but i dont trust faggy ass plebbitors. can you tell me why psych is worse or hospital is better?>>34405916i am in dire need of stable money and this guarantees it for the next 3years lol. ill do anything. fuck i'd even work as mcdonalds or clean shit (ye i got rejected due to having a bachelors in compsci lol)
>>34405940hospital workers will always be in high demand. it's much better job security
>>34406036but psych workers too, no?
>>34406056not as much as hospital workers. seeing a psych is a luxury / option for a lot of people. it's harder to avoid needing to go to a hospital. people are always sick and dying and will always need hospital care
>>34406065dont wanna argue with u since thats a good point but ppl also have psychiatric emergencies, no? especially in rougher economic times?
>>34405940>i am in dire need of stable money and this guarantees it for the next 3years lol. ill do anything. fuck i'd even work as mcdonalds or clean shit (ye i got rejected due to having a bachelors in compsci lol)None of this helps us to know which medical discipline you're suited to. Do you get on well with people? Are you interested in people? Are you a man or a woman? Are you reasonably fit and strong? How squeamish are you about blood, urine, shit or vomit? Do you have good manual dexterity? Are you smart? Do you have a good memory? Are you good in a crisis? How comfortable are you with shift work? Are you easily manipulated? Are you good at not making mistakes when tired? Are you good at following rules you can't see the point of and never once breaking them? Can you follow orders? Are you good with responsibility? Could you restrain someone without hurting them? If you were talking to someone very agitated, would you be good at calming them down?I'm sure there are a lot of other questions that might be relevant. My immediate reaction is that "I'm desperate for money" is a pretty awful reason to become a nurse. It's backbreaking work - incredibly long shifts - that requires a lot of expertise, and doesn't pay well, at least to begin with. If someone is going to make a success of nursing, it needs to be a calling, not just a way to pay the bills. Even as a junior nurse in a hospital, you'll be required to administer medication - possibly including injecting patients; you just have to get the dosage wrong once and someone dies. If you forget to wash your hands thoroughly enough just once, you may give someone a life-threatening infection. As a psychiatric nurse, you might be involved in admissions: you might, for example, be the first person to talk to a highly agitated patient who has recently attempted suicide and been admitted against their will: it's your job to calm them down enough to get some useful information out of them. None of this is easy.
>>34406174thanks that makes answering stuff alot more feasible..>Do you get on well with people?yeah its something thats been highlighted good in the workreferences i have (arbeitszeugnis if youre from DACH-space)>Are you interested in people?yes>Are you a man or a woman?man>Are you reasonably fit and strong?average i'd say. my BMI is in the healthy range>How squeamish are you about blood, urine, shit or vomit?very squeamish...>Do you have good manual dexterity?yes>Are you smart?i'd say so>Do you have a good memory?yes>Are you good in a crisis?depends what type of crisis desu... i could be "hesitant" in certain situations, but i also think i could learn to be more responsive>How comfortable are you with shift work?to not have to go on welfare? super comfy. ofc im not "hot" for it, but ill do what i gotta do.>Are you easily manipulated?i wouldnt say so, but im super empathic.. so i could be, i think? usually have a good BS-filter tho.>Are you good at not making mistakes when tired?yes>Are you good at following rules you can't see the point of and never once breaking them?as usual i dont question the orders of my superiors.>Can you follow orders?yes>Are you good with responsibility?yes>Could you restrain someone without hurting them?i definitely could, but not alone.. like i'd need help i think.>If you were talking to someone very agitated, would you be good at calming them down?depends on if im alone or with others. i think i could do that. but i'd like.. need to be in a few situations to kind of "pick" it up.
i thought id be doing anesthesia for sure but ended up getting comfy in home healthbretty impossible to know where you fit in, before actually doing work (not clinicals) at the different fields i believe
>>34405940>(ye i got rejected due to having a bachelors in compsci lol)Doubt
>>34406301i did get rejected. she told me theyre not gonna take ppl with bachelor degrees because they'll be gone once they find a job in their fieldand how tf am i gonna tell her that it was my lifelong passion to work at mcdonalds LMFAO
>>34406182>>34405940Eh, Reddit is the world's biggest forum next to the chans, so you might as well get some info there, otherwise you are just denying yourself information because you are being stubborn.>>34405902If you are insistent on nursing as a career path, I would pick hospital nursing. Psych care is awful unless you feel some sort of calling to it, though if you can slog through it you will probably always have a job. I was on a 3 day hold for ideation due to workplace stress a while back and saw shit that still haunts me. You will be dealing with people who are mentally not there or having the worst days of their lives. In psych wards you'll also be dealing with homeless people, homeless bums trying to malinger to get out of the cold, violent people who scream and fight you at every turn, and every body fluid imaginable, vomit, piss, shit, blood, cum, spit, you name it. I remember one day this male nurse got assigned to be a tard wrangler for some disabled black girl who didn't speak but basically had crackhead zoomies 100% of the time. God, if I didn't have a job and need short term disability I would not have checked myself in voluntarily. Also schizos. They have this odd combination of being smart but also incredibly arrogant and retarded and ritualistic. They are the most annoying people I've ever met because they never shut up about the same 10 delusions.>>34406065Psych isn't a luxury. The local Police will dump certain people there and doctors will put people in holds.>>>34406174>My immediate reaction is that "I'm desperate for money" is a pretty awful reason to become a nurse...None of this is easy.Yeah. This is coming from an American, but most of the nurses I've encountered were pretty retarded. They are basically the plough horses of a hospital.
>>34406174i answered ur questions here >>34406182 can you reply? :c
>>34410147If you can't stand the sight of blood, then nursing is definitely not for you.
