I have 5 cats, their ages in order are 8yo, 7yo, 5yo, 4yo, 7 months old. I really feel out of place, my talent gets me nowhere and my options are running out, I thought my life would be different, each year is worse and the income is lower, rent is higher, lost my savings.All that stops me from doing it is them, they are my everything, obviously my family too but I hope they can manage, life has been rough and all I want is my cats to live a long, fulfilling life and I want to know if my death would affect that for them, knowing my mother would take care of them just like I do, she is the sweetest soul of the universe.
They will at first, but then they'll have no choice but to eat your eyeballs and skin for sustenance.

I have four cats OP, but I used to have five like you. I lost one to a urinary tract infection some time ago. When I've felt like it'd be easier to just die, my cats are what kept me going. It got hard when I lost my mother after taking care of her for years, and it was the thought of having to give my cats to a shelter or separate them that kept me from thinking suicidal thoughts. Don't ever kill yourself OP, if not for your cats, then for your family, and for your mother. After the pain of losing my mother, I can only imagine how your mother would feel if she lost you. You don't want to do that to her.

I often feel like the only reason I haven't blown my brains out is because of my mom and my cats. One of my friends killed himself in highschool, so I had to go through that, and I know how it affected my mom. All I know is she doesn't deserve that.You ain't alone OP. Cats have remarkably long memories, and they grieve when people or other cats that they love are gone. My parents used to have a pair of Siamese cats that were very close. When one of them died, the other one became very depressed and lethargic, and eventually stopped eating. They managed to find a new Siamese kitten to adopt, and looking after it was just enough to get him interested in life again - he went on for another year or so, but was never the same.A long time after that they adopted two adult Tonkinese brothers but - for rather complex reasons - although they both came from the same household, they acquired the two of them about a year apart. When the two of them were reintroduced it was obvious that they instantly recognised each other, and were astonished and delighted to be together again.
