After 2+ years of back and forth with like 5 different doctors, I was finally able to convince one last month to send me for an MRI with contrast which show my wrist is completely fucked. There’s a lot wrong, but the biggest things are that I have a full thickness tear of my scapholunate (the surgeon literally said that it’s “gone”) and a partial tear in my TFCC. I need total reconstruction of the scapholunate and the jury is still out for how significant the tear in the TFCC is which will determine the surgical procedure they use for it. I know my wrist is never going to be the same, but has anyone else dealt with something like this before? I’d love to hear others’ experiences. Thanks!

I hear the computer generation whacks off left handed. Wishing you the best. Doctors told me some wrong shit before, for sure. Your statistics are statistically better than whatever they statistically are. You ain’t a number, OP.

Thanks. Tbh, while I’m pissed that my previous doctors all missed it, I’m just glad to have an answer now. Recovery is apparently brutal. Jacking it lefty will be a first for me though lol. Maybe this’ll give me an excuse to go out and find a long term girlfriend haha

>when op finally fapped too much
how's your left wrist game going?

Nonexistent. I can’t quite figure it out yet. Luckily, I’m only in a Velcro brace for now (not my arm in the picrel), but I will be in a cast for a while, likely pretty soon. I threw all of my info into AI and they all indicated that I should be in a cast even while I wait for surgery.

I was jerking off with my left hand before I had a computer.

Still need to figure that out haha

Ortho bro here.
After SLL recon, you're basically back to normal.
HOWEVER, how much your wrist has suffered during that time without SLL is unknown.
At worst case it accelerated your wrist arthritis, at best you'd die before you feel it.
The rehab is a bitch though.
Good luck.

That’s really good to hear. I read that anything beyond 6 weeks post injury can’t usually be repaired, so I’m definitely due for reconstruction. My MRI with contrast didn’t show any signs of arthritis yet, but it’s possible they missed some things. I may be getting an arthroscopic surgery first to scope out the extent of the damage and repair the TFCC first which should give them a better idea. While originally I was kind of hoping to salvage my summer and not have to deal with a cast or brace the whole time, now I’m more in the camp of being willing to do whatever it takes to get my wrist to as good of a place as it can be.
On that note, they’ve just got me in a cock up brace for now before I have any surgery, not the cast shown in the picrel. Does that seem weird? Part of me feels like I should be in one until surgery, but obviously I’m not the expert, I just don’t want to make things worse. I certainly don’t love the idea of spending months and months in a cast, but if that’s what’s best for my wrist I’d rather do so.

>Does that seem weird?
No, that pretty common.
They don't want further damage/Pain.
Brace vs cast in SL injury doesn't make much difference, a brace might be better since you can remove it.
Really few hours outside the brace won't make things worse, unlike a fractures so you need a cast for those.
>arthroscopic vs open
It's the same results in the end, desu.

What do you mean?

Good to know that there’s not much difference in a brace vs cast for now. I’m assuming that will not be the case post surgery. Realistically, what kinda recovery timeline am I looking at? I’ve seen as little as like only a few days in a cast and a return to sports in like 4 months and as long as 3+ months in casts followed by 12-18 months of PT.

I really appreciate the input btw, I’m sure answering some random anon’s dumb questions after work isn’t exactly relaxing for you haha

Can’t tell you what the recovery is like myself, but I hope you get better soon!

Thanks! It seems like it’ll be a long recovery, but at least there’s an end to it someday (many days from now, ugh)
