I need some advice on a diabolical work move. This essentially would be sacrificing some dignity to chase the dollar.
>details
I was recently bumped up a grade in pay but my employer can’t enact that grade until later. This bump was a special case and to my knowledge all other employees who got bumped were brought to their new grade floor except for me. I’m going to be meeting with them later to find out the details of this and I’m prepared to negotiate on just about everything from retroactive pay, equity/retention funds, and even PTO.
>the ruse
In the event they won’t budge or they want to trickle increase my salary (not good) without any sweeteners, how ethical would it be to claim being lgbt in order to cause a compliance/discrimination scare? Obviously it is a nuclear option for short term gains, but I’d probably be looking for a new job anyways at that point.

It's be better to come to work in full blackface and say "IZ IT BECUZ I'M BLACK?!? Y'ALL CRACKAZ DUN GON GIB ME MUH REPUHREISHUNZ; SHEEIIIIT!!!" as it'd be slightly funnier while having the exact same consequences.

>tl;dr:
Don't do it.

HR exists to protect the company, not you. I know conservative media has convinced you that it's as easy as saying "help help i'm being repressed!" to get a fat check from (???) but the reality is that unless you have real robust proof that everyone in the office knew you were LGBT and they were also stupid enough to email each other about how they wouldn't promote you for being LGBT, you will be quietly let go/put on a no promotion list forever. and they don't need a reason because employers don't actually need a reason to let you go.
>>
>we swindled you and aren't actually giving you a raise
>but im gay

It’s absolutely foolproof.

This would be at the point where I’d actively looking for a new job anyway. It’s the nuclear option in an attempt to make short term earnings. I don’t think this situation is likely, but it would be kind of hilarious watching them scramble around.
>>
It would be if they'd actually do that. But they won't. You'll just make a total cunt of yourself for no actual benefit.

they wouldn't. racism and sexism lose jury trials, that's what they're scared of. no one gives a shit about lgbt or ageism and they wouldn't care

Your workplace obviously sees you as a problem. Which they're clearly justified because you're considering blackmailing them for a raise.

They're holding your bump because they want you to quit instead of having to fire your without cause and pay for unemployment.
