I'm looking at buying an OLED TV and was wondering what brand you think is best? I usually go with Samsung but the reviews are saying they aren't great. Haven't bought a TV since around 2015 so need some advice on all the new technology

Thinking about to LG C4 OLED

Idk either. I was thinking about the same thing, and I was also thinking about buying a projector and whether there's a projector comparable to a TV. It doesn't matter if I can't use at day, I would use only at night. So have my bump.

I stopped buying Samsung TVs and monitors because of the annoying user interface and other software features. I find LG to be better in that regard.

LG G6.

i have a sony one. They are ROBUSTLY built.

very good quality and no nonsense with the warraties and repairings if that matters with you

I have an LG OLED C1. I would highly recommend an LG, the quality is truly amazing.

I'm looking at the reviews and apparently the G6 costs an extra $1000 and is only like 10% more powerful than the C4
>>

"10% more powerful"? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? There is no measure of "power" that is in any way useful for determining TV performance. What matters the most is *accuracy*: the extent to which the brightness and colour of the pixels on the screen correctly reproduce what's specified in the video data, without introducing unpleasant artefacts. A secondary consideration is features: what range of audio and video input signal types it can handle, and the range of built-in apps, etc.

If you want some expert advice, find a dedicated forum and ask there. In the UK, try avforums.com or avsforum in the US.

(And obviously the C4 is cheaper, because it came out two years earlier, and it's a mid-range model rather than high-end.)

>10% more powerful
It has a little more performance than the last year model (LG C4). I think the C4 has 144Hz refresh rate while the G6 has 165Hz refresh rate. I determined that was about 10% more powerful. Other than performance it says the screen is about 20% brighter which doesn't really matter to me since I'm not using it in a bright room

Most TV that you watch will have a 23.976fps frame-rate; the screen refresh rate is largely irrelevant unless you plan on using it as a monitor for gaming, and quite possibly even then. There are some rare situations where 120Hz playback is helpful, and a few discs encoded at 60fps, but probably not anything you'd actually want to see.

Maximum brightness is useful up to a point, but good tone-mapping generally makes more of a difference to subjective picture quality on HDR.

All in all, neither of those metrics tells you anything useful.

The best brand is TCL or Sony. LG or Samsung make high end TVs also. If you watch a lot of HDR content, you might want a miniLED set with higher brightness than C4 OLED. The point of HDR video is to display the fullest range possible, which is not possible with last gen tech (LG C4). If I’m just gaming, then the OLED hits the mark. The next level of TV viewing is 1000nit brightness at least.

…So the 48” and lower C4 are 800nit. I believe the other C4s do 1000nit, so it might be OK. BUT there are movies and videos encoded with even higher brightness. AND now semi-affordable TVs brighter than OLEDs.
