It seems you have an informal job, not a regulated one.
I think if they wanted to fire you, they would never have called you back, instead of just going a week without calling you. Because if they went a week without you, why couldn't they go a month or a year without you? That's why we have to save money, so that when something like this happens, we can tell our boss to fuck off and get another job.

Firing people (if they are in a formal job) is a complicated matter, at least here in my country; I imagine they might think the paperwork involved might not be worth it, but unfortunately I dunno for sure.

Is there someone you can call/send a message to and ask about it? Ask if everything's ok, say that they told you to take a day off, explain the situation, etc. (best to omit the joke part, though).

I think it's best to not joke about that sort of thing moving on, specially in the workplace. If you're not fired, just try to be strictly professional and straightforward for a while, while the dust settles.
