Okay, so I'm broke as fuck and on food stamps, and I'm resorting to this ramen noodle shit as my base source of carbs for each day of the week.Thing is, I don't like those fucking flavor packets with those nasty shit in them and all that fucking sodium. I've actually eaten these without the packets and they were alright. What can I do to make them taste good without the fucking packets? Put in some onions sauce? Cause like a bottle of cheap onions sauce is like $1.50 here.
>>34440355>onions sauceFuck you, 4chan!!!
>>34440355Eggs tard
>>34440367What? How?
>>34440355> on food stampsSo buy real food and learn to cook it, not the expensive processed shit.
>>34440448I know how to cook. I'm just on a tight budget of $45 a week (the food stamps) and food is fucking expensive and I want to make my money last a long time.As I said, I needed a cheap tasty food that would meet my BASE daily carb intake needs. I did the math, and these noodles would cover that, at about $10 a week. I just need a good base carb that's glucose starch based and not fructose sugar based, cause all that fucking fructose sugar is bad for my blood pressure and heart cause my doctor is saying I fucking up my body.I already buy "real food". I buy jasmine rice and chicken and onions sauce and make fried rice out of that as my daily meal. I make my own sausage egg and cheese muffins every day, that's $1.16 a muffin.
>ramen for carbsretarded memerice is like 3 times more effective>how do I make carbs tastyfrozen mixed veg, egg, salt and peppergoy sauces are loaded with salt and sugar
>>34440515>rice is like 3 times more effectiveand 3 times more expensive... I'm trying to save money here dude
>>34440398You put an a beaten egg in there are you retarded????
>>34440525That sounds disgusting. Plus eggs are expensive, and I don't need all that fat cause it defeats the purpose of eating the ramen in the first place. I'm not going for a meal here. Just something tasty to give me my 100% daily value of carbs for the day.Anyways, I think I'm gonna go with garlic powder for the ramen.
>>34440525Also, you're being very vague. Cooking ramen involves boiling water. Putting a "beaten egg" in there would wind up with a disgusting mixture of ramen and boiled eggs.Have you ever eaten a boiled egg that was cracked open as it was boiling. Fucking nasty sulfuric ash tasting shit.I don't know how the fuck you expect that to be tasty, but it doesn't sound tasty to me. Nasty shit.It would make more sense to fry the egg separately with some oil and salt then put it in with the ramen after they're cooked.
>>34440571>>34440541This is why youre poor because youre a fucking retard holy shitYouve never about heard rice niggers eating this shit, its like basic ass fucking knowledge this is why I was so vaguePut the already beaten egg into the cooked ramen, also the ramen must be hot in order for the egg to cook, and just mix
>>34440599No, it's not basic ass fucking knowledge. I don't know how the fuck "rice niggers" eat their shit cause I'm not a "rice nigger". You're an idiot to assume that I or anyone should know how everyone else cooks their food. And who the fuck gets annoyed at being asked how they cook their food. Who the fuck do you think you are? Gordon Ramsey? Get the fuck out of my thread and go fuck yourself you piece of shit.
>>34440510$45 per week is doable for one person. Assuming I had literally nothing I'd go to Aldi and buy>2gal milk, $5.40>butter, 16 oz, $2.99>1 dozen eggs, $1.66>12 grain bread, 24 oz., $2.40>14oz kielbasa, $2.89>3ct. pork chops, ~22oz, $5.39>2 cans green beans, $1.44>2 cans sweet corn, $1.42>1 can kidney beans, $0.85>1 can black beans, $0.85>1 can corned beef hash, $2.69>1 can sardines in hot sauce, $0.99>frozen onion and pepper blend, $2.09>frozen Asian medley, $1.59>3lbs brown rice, $2.09>baking potatoes, 5lbs, $2.79>bunch of bananas, $0.64>bag of apples, $2.69>2 7.5oz macaroni and cheese, $1.20That's a total of $42.06 but I assumed tax would push it up. I'd have a fried egg and two slices of buttered toast for breakfast for three days, one slice of toast with an omelette made with two eggs and some of the pepper blend for two days, and toast with some of the kielbasa (~3oz) for two days. If you have the time and know how to cook you can make hash browns with the potatoes to spare yourself the monotony of toast. Have some of the fruit too.Mix some of the onion and pepper blend into the corned beef hash, split it in two for two lunches. A cup of rice, a can of beans, and some of the vegetable medley makes three more lunches. Other half of the kielbasa, a little frozen veg, and one of the mac and cheeses gives two more lunches. I didn't budget for sauces or seasonings but if you have any add them to the individual portions to get some variety. Honestly just fucking shoplift them if you don't because you'll want to kys otherwise. And again, add some fruit. For dinners you'll have the pork chops for three nights, baked or mashed potatoes, and some of the canned vegetables. Again if you've got sauces use them. Three more dinners will be the same as the rice lunch. Use 4 eggs and different vegetables. Last mac and cheese straight for the last dinner.
>>34440832I'd have some extra stuff from this. It'll carry over. Deenz and rice; a medley of green beans, potatoes, and sausage with some melted butter and herbs as a "sauce," and are additional options. I'd try to buy yogurt or cheese with some extra money too because it's nutritious and I really like it. You can do something very similar with tomato paste, pasta, or pre-made pasta/alfredo sauce, I'd probably do that the next week just to keep mixing it up. Oatmeal, cornbread mixes, and pancake mixes are other good options I didn't go for. You can also get chicken or other meats for similar prices to the pork and there's all kinds of things you can do with those besides just pan-frying them. Spam is also pretty good value but I'd get the reduced sodium. If you're dead set on Ramen mixing in some of those frozen vegetable medleys, cheap meats, and chili powder will make it a decent meal. If the flavor packet is too salty just don't use the whole thing.I also assumed you have a decent amount of tupperware. If you don't obviously this doesn't work, but I would straight up skip meals if I had to to get those things.
Also if you're a brokie go to a food pantry, Salvation Army, or Interchurch. They will give you basic goods like this for free if you need it, or give you a decent meal that'll let you either save a bit more for next week or eat a somewhat better diet. Shit is hard but society has not collapsed, you don't have to give yourself African starver diseases eating nothing but salt and carbs.
>>34440832>>34440841It's always nice to get a look at what other people buy for food and how they eat it. Thank you for the effort you put into this post. Much appreciated.
>>34440355>Okay, so I'm broke as fuck and on food stamps, and I'm resorting to this ramen noodle shit as my base source of carbs for each day of the week. Why?I mean, of all the pastas in the world, why ramen noodles? Buy a box of elbow macaroni for the same price and you have meals for days. Buy a jar of pasta sauce and a bag of dried beans and then you can make pastafazool (Pasta e Fagioli), which is a complete protein (instead of just carbs) that will last you an entire week. All you need is a pot, a storage container, and a refrigerator-- so if you're not homeless then you're eating the wrong cheap pasta.
>>34440832Damn your Aldi is cheaper than mine>>34440355Get some unagi eel sauce from Walmart and put some eggs in there man
>>34441134>I mean, of all the pastas in the world, why ramen noodles?Because I haven't eaten ramen noodles in years? Also I like the taste and I'm craving that right about now. I hate pasta though. Unless it's mac and cheese. My daily meat and potatoes carb is rice.>All you need is a pot, a storage container, and a refrigeratorYes, I have all of those.>>34441173No, no eggs. This has to be strictly carbs.
>>34441184>My daily meat and potatoes carb is rice. Why not potatoes? Also if you're not eating enough meat then please pair your pasta and/or rice with legumes. A grain (rice/wheat/corn) plus a legume is how you get a complete protein FOR CHEAP.
>>34440355Cheap chili is easy to make in quantity and freeze. Buy ingredients on sale. Healthier carbs than pasta.Canned beansCanned tomato sauce (or chopped tomatoes, or spaghetti sauce)Sautéed ground meat or sausageSautéed onions and peppersSpicesJust wing the recipe. Almost impossible to make this wrong.
Add a broth cube.
>>34440510I eat keto for $200 a month, 2300 calories a day.In fairness I do live in a rural area where food prices may be a little cheaper. How are you fucking up so bad?If you are going for carbs choose basmati rice or boiled sweet potatoes. You need starches that are low on the glycemic index. You can buy a 20lb bag of royal basmati rice for $20 at Walmart. (32,000 calories)And no I'm not a filthy Pajeet, just worked for an Indian once and tried the rice.
>>34440355A pack of cheap spaghetti is cheaper and better for you.
>>34440355Are you fucking retarded? The government had bestowed you with food stamps and you are spending it on ramen? Buy some fucking fresh groceries or give me my tax dollars back.
>>34440677You stupid fucking retardI bet youre an amerifag that stuffed his face full of burgers all his lifeImagine being such a fucking idiot you need instructions to put a damn egg in some ramen Retarded poor fag
>>34441884Oh look, Mister Gordon Fucking Ramsey has returned with his massive fucking ego and elitist attitude. >I know how to put a damn egg in some ramen, I'm Einstein, hur hur hur. I'm so fucking smart, hur hur hur.Who the fuck cares, dude. You have the emotional intelligence of a fucking rock. You came in here, >>34440367, with your fucking shit attitude, pretty much annoyed that someone would dare make a thread asking for suggestions on how to eat their food differently. And all you said was one word, "Eggs" followed by an insult. As if I should've read your fucking mind and have known this already. As if that is the one and only universal way to eat noodles that everyone on the fucking planet should know. Too lazy to even elaborate, just "Eggs" niggah. Almost like the very existence of this thread is insulting to your intelligence.Yeah man, that's why there's a million different forums and youtube channels and TV channels all about cooking food. That's why there's a million different recipes and different ways to cook food from different cultures all around the world. That's why there's chefs that went to culinary school that get paid to cook food. Yeah, everyone just knows how everyone cooks their food. It's just basic ass fucking knowledge, man. We're all mind readers here. We've all gone through the exact same experiences in life. We know everything and everyone.>I bet youre an amerifag that stuffed his face full of burgers all his lifeWhile I am an American citizen, I actually wasn't born here. And no, I've eaten a variety of foods throughout my life. First time I ate a burger was when I came to the USA at the age of 12. So try again.
>>34441884I guarantee you there's a food out there that you've never heard of that you absolutely do not know how to cook. I guarantee you there's a group of people out there that cooks their pasta in a way that you've never heard of. I guarantee you there's a group of people that bakes their pies using ingredients you would never think of using that make the pie taste in a way that you would never think was even possible. Like for instance, I love to bake my pumpkin pies with coconut milk and coconut sugar instead of regular milk and white sugar, for a much richer and deeper nuttier flavor. That in turn requires me to bake it longer in the oven since coconut sugar doesn't cook the same way as white sugar. Am I going to get annoyed at you for not knowing that? Who the fuck do you think you are getting annoyed at someone over this? Do you see anyone else in this thread getting annoyed that I don't buy or cook my food their particular way? Besides this, >>34441867, nigger bitching over his taxes. I paid taxes too, you fuck. You're so fucking smart, so much fucking respect for human life oozing out of your fucking mouth, that you can't even be bothered to fucking call an Asian person their by their appropriate name. No, you have such disrespect for other cultures that you call them "rice niggers." Looking down on poor people, thinking you're superior to them. And I'm supposed to take cooking advice from a person like you? Dude, take your fucking eggs, shove them up your bony white ass, take a massive dump, reach into that pile of shit and take those shit covered eggs and shove them down your fucking throat. There, I've given you some cooking instructions. It's basic ass fucking knowledge.I feel sorry for the people in your life that have the audacity to ask you for advice and have to deal with your shit. Go fuck yourself and don't EVER come back to my thread ever again. You disgusting subhuman little shit.
>>34440355I get those miso soup paste from the japanese stores here and use that as broth for my ramen noodles. It tastes like crazy good. also add mushrooms if you can assuming meat is out of option for you. Buy a lot of onions occasionally yeah. caramelize them. But it would have a lot of sulphur and everytime you piss you are gonna stank up the entire toilet. so dont eat too much onions.
>>34441134Yeah I second this guy. Why are you trying to make ramen OP? Pasta boxes cost nothing and you can buy sauces for nothing either. Pretty much you can put all the onions you want. Bell peppers, mushrooms + any veggies actually. Heck, even pasta with olive oil with some garlic mixed in tastes good once in a while.
>>34442209>everytime you piss you are gonna stank up the entire toilet. so dont eat too much onions. But I love onions!!!
>>34442219in that case i recommend you make onion soup. my favorite stuff. takes time but there's no way you wont love it. its addicting. get some cheap bread (sourdough bread). i am guessing you have olives and garlic. YOU ARE SET. if you love ramen as well. go ahead and just buy plain ramen. they are cheaper than the instant stuff. you can find those in the frozen/cold section. In EU and NZ i found those in the cold section. in india i made them since they had a crazy amount of raw ingredients. you call yourself a good cook i am sure you can manage.
>>34442226>if you love ramen as well. go ahead and just buy plain ramen. they are cheaper than the instant stuff. Is that what they call egg noodles? Otherwise, I don't think my local Kroger stores have such a thing. And currently, the maruchan instant ramen noodles are at 8 cents an ounce, while these egg noodles are at 11 cents an ounce. Some of the other egg noodles are even at 30 cents an ounce!
>>34442216>Why are you trying to make ramen OP?Well... I'm craving the taste. I used to eat ramen noodles a few years ago, and it wouldn't hurt to taste them again, even if it's only gonna be for a couple weeks.>Heck, even pasta with olive oil with some garlic mixed in tastes good once in a while.I get what you're saying, but I hate pasta, unless it's macaroni and cheese. Given the choice between pasta and rice, I'd choose the rice, and very often do, as I eat rice on a daily basis and have been doing so for more than a decade now. I like to eat my rice with raw onions and tomatoes.I'm gonna experiment around and see what I like. The next thing I'm gonna do once I get some spare time is I'm gonna learn to make my own tortilla shells, cause I loved making my own burritos. But currently, my favorite brand of tortilla shell maker has doubled the price of their shells since I used to make them a couple years ago. So it's time I learned to make my own.
>>34442202>>34442205You deserve your suffering.
>>34440355Buy proper seasonings like an adult as you get the money. At least basics. Snoy sauce is fine and will be okay if you want your ramen to feel ~asian~ but it's not really the bulk of the flavor. Save up for a bottle of mirin/rice wine too if you want fancy homemade chinks. But for your ramen, use a pinch of garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, and always use black pepper and salt in your food. If you can afford it, get some ginger. You can cut off the budding limbs and grow it to get more. A pinch of cumin or coriander will also go well in ramen. What will really be missing is the meat/vegetable broth. It's not that hard to make yourself: legit throw a whole (defeathered and washed) chicken into your largest pot and fill with water. Add a bay leaf and halve a turnip and celery stick (or two if it's a massive stock pot). Boil on low for 2+ hours, strain out the crap, cool the chicken and pick the meat from the carcass. Bam, chicken broth you can save for other meals. Thyme goes great with any meat or meat flavors. Basil for chicken, rosemary for beef. Bay leaves work for everything too, especially in soups so you get your money's worth. My personal favorite budget meal is cabbage noodle. You shred a cabbage and saute it until it starts to caramelize. Coat that shit in black pepper, salt to taste, then mix it with pasta. The entire head of cabbage will probably feed you alone for a week, much longer if you prefer a larger pasta ratio. Cheap, healthy, quick.
>>34443745>Snoy saucekek>A pinch of cumin or coriander will also go well in ramen.Oh shit, I forgot all about cumin. I used to love that shit on my rice. Never tried it in ramen though. >cabbage noodleThe fuck? Oh I gotta try some of that.
>>34443846It's a hungarian peasant dish. The online pics just look gross because they're either shitty pictures or americanized renditions. It's worth trying once because the pepper and light sweetness pairs unexpectedly well, and if you don't like it, it only cost you like $4 and it's something cheap to bring to potlucks.Could always make some homemade steak bakes too, if you enjoy cooking and have the time. Stew meat should be affordable and you can buy puff pastry. If I make more than a pound of meat, I have to freeze the pastries or start giving them away to people, or they go bad before I can finish them. Doesn't stop me from batching 2lbs though, it's worth the effort.
>>34440360Does this really happen?Onions sauce
>>34440355Why are you being poor? Use vinegar. Cheap. Yummy.
>>34444054lmao yes it does happen 4chan hates onions sauce>>34443956>and you can buy puff pastry.Oh man, I gotta lay off the sugar. I'm eating a tub of ice cream right now as I'm typing this, so I dunno.>It's a hungarian peasant dish.Haluski is it? I dunno, I can't seem to get a clear pic of it on google images, the pics all show actual noodles.>>34444106>Why are you being poor?I dunno man. I just woke up one day and decided to try it out, kek xD
>>34444106Vinegar? Nah, I can't do that. I hate acidic foods, they burn my teeth as I'm eating them and it feels fucking awful and leaves my teeth feeling sensitive for hours. That's why I only eat things like pineapple every few months. Cause that acid is fucking murder on my teeth, even after I rinse my mouth out with water immediately after, it's still murder. And I always... fucking rinse my mouth out with water after eating acidic foods.I mean, don't get me wrong, sugar is bad. But sugar AND acid? Holy shit dude. I just had my teeth drilled for cavities back in November. I don't need any more.
>>34444118You have a job? Increase the number on your W4 to take home more and put that extra in an IRA, then borrow against that to buy an acre, then use that as leverage to borrow for more investments that will pay the bills.
>>34440355Just treat it like noodles, retard. The flavor packets are just chicken stock so if you have a problem with them you're probably just some fag who's gotten it into your head that you're above it. Just toss in literally anything that's good normally with noodles, whether western or eastern.Just get noodles instead, anyway.
>>34440677>No, it's not basic ass fucking knowledgeYes it is, and you're a retard.
>>34441184>hate pasta though. Unless it's mac and cheesewhat a fag
>>34444118káposztás tésztaThere is some pasta mixed in, just use your prefered ratio. Also puff pastry as in flakey dough to turn the stewed meat into a poptart ready to freeze, not bakery treats.I got one more, paprikas krumpli. The poverty version of chicken paprika. Boil some potatoes, slice/cube them. Saute a bit of onion and sliced pepper, add a spoon of paprika seasoning, slice some sausage or hotdog into it, and finally toss the cooked potatoes in and mix it up.
