Is it really a bad thing to go out with a friend's ex?

We are all in the same class in uni. I'm friends with bro but not exceptionally close with him.

Like she dumped him 2 or 3 years ago, and there's been tension between us since before they even got together. Would I be a bad person if I did this?

Actually the possibility of this being transgressive makes me like her more. case closed, I've decided I don't care.

Your friend fucked her in all the positions and holes you can imagine and came inside her many times. Just remember, when you're doing the same with her, that women don't wash the inside of their vaginas, and there's still his DNA on her vaginal walls. And if you have a son, he will be born chimerized with his DNA. I think this makes you guys bond even more, lol.

The only relevant word in your post. She's his ex. They are not together. She is not his property in any possible way. You are not poaching. She owes him no special loyalty. You owe him no special loyalty.

Yes, that's how I see it logically, but this will cause a scandal unfortunately. I'm in one of those courses that have such a high workload that it makes everyone's personal lives quite dull, making people scandalised over silly things like this. Fortunately I don't really care enough

He was never your friend , just a person who wasn't supposed to be there

The normal thing to do would be to ask your friend if he's okay with it.

Normally I'd say it's not worth it, having a bit of experience with dating friends ex's however 2-3 years is long enough that I'd say you're fine. Just keep in mind it'll never be as simple as dating someone without a history.
