Like when things are terrible and then they get even worse, and everyone and everything is against you and you feel like you’re running out of time.

It’s not so difficult to have short bursts of positivity that maybe last for a couple hours but the soon I’m back to square one

Too vague dude, you should be more specific.

It's vague. Do you want to solve your problems or just cope about it? If you want to just cope, aka, being positive all the time, then just remind yourself we're all gonna die and nothing matters, even if you suffer for a little while, or if you indulge in pleasure 24/7, it doesn't matter
>>
negativity is unjustly demonized, it's part of life and trying to sweep it under the carpet will only make you suffer even more
the best idea is to accept your negative feelings "yes, I'm feeling discouraged, disadvantaged, troubled", don't hide it
depending on good moods to act will just make you inconsistent
also, read Atomic Habits and this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cognitive_biases

Appreciate it and thank you for the book recommendation

I and probably OP don't have any positive things in our lives to be positive about so any positive feelings would have to be the exhausting kind, faked

Maybe don't?
You don't have to be in a good mood to walk in the right direction.

also ask yourself what things in your life you can change and focus on those

I'm not risk-averse, I've already made many short-term pleasure/self-destructive purchases lately because I have nothing left to lose

Embrace the simple truth.
We all gonna die at some point, so it's doesn't matter at the end.

For me what helps is being very passionate about a specific hobby, it gives a type of meaning external problems can't easily take away. Learning more about certain scientific concepts and how the world works helps too, it recontectualizes things and makes typical human problems feel less big or threatening. Geology, paleontology and cosmology in particular
