How should I maintain the rags I use for cleaning. They start to smell pretty bad after a couple of days and I don't want to smell it or have the smell transfer to my counters. I threw this one in the laundry closet, when I opened it up a day later the closet reeked of rag smell. When I worked in kitchens we would clean them with soap and throw them in a bucket of sanitizer.
Do the same thing you do in kitchens. Have a stack in your kitchen and use them like paper towels. Toss used into a basket and empty the basket into the wash at night.
>>34445676Makes sense, thanks. I forgot we used to go through a lot of them.
>>34445672What I do is:>first rinse it in some water, then squeeze it, then repeat the process about 1~2 more times.>put it and other rags that need cleaning (and that went through the same process) in a bucket with some water and bleach.>leave it there for a couple of hours>remove them from the bucket, squeeze, rinse, squeeze>leave it to dry on the sun/wind
Use paper towels instead.
>>34445672Soak them in bleach, rinse them out thoroughly, and then throw in the washing machine with the laudry.
You can't let them stay wet, hang them somewhere to dry between uses. Have a new cloth for every day of the week and wash them in the washing machine on Sunday.
I rinse rags I've used, let them dry, then use the washing machine when I've got enough dirty rags to make it worth my while to clean them properly.
>>34445672Soak them in water IMMEDIATELY. Do not let filth settle in.
