My psychiatrist sent me to a clinical psychologist for this assessment during our first session. I'm going there next Monday. The paper says "complex psychodiagnostic assessment, mainly personality and ADD". All I know is that it's going to take around 4 hours. What am I in for? Do you have any experience with this type of assessment?
>>34447963Nothing crazy. It's not like the movies and there's no grand or shocking insight into you as a person. Just examination of thought patterns and behaviours in the present day, and then analysis of thought patterns or behaviours you exhibited in childhood (based on self reporting or asking someone who knew you back in the day to help build up a mental picture aka parents or older sibling or caregiver) most times they don't need to ask your relative if you yourself already have vivid memories of your upbringing. Then they just see what diagnosis closely matches the overall pattern and you get diagnosed as ADHD or autistic or bipolar or some shit. Maybe a personality disorder if it was a rough past but that's rare, it'll be something like complex post traumatic stress disorder. You won't get sent to a funny farm or mental hospital or asylum, just offered either cognitive behavioural therapy or dialectical behavioural therapy and you have the control to decline. They may also meds if it's ADHD, offering Adderall etc. you have the control to decline. You're in control of the whole thing so don't worry about it and don't get too excited either, the process is a bit boring overall but definitely helpful if you wish to take them up on the offer of cognitive behaviour therapy or dialectic behaviour therapy.CBT is just when a therapist gives you strategies on how to adjust your physical behaviours or reactions to situations. And DBT is where they help you identify emotions and how to realistically interpret them when matched up with reality.
