People don't have to care about art, they just like what they like and check out what interests them. To me it seems like you're looking for validation by making yourself "cultured" but the truth is watching the entire cinematic canon won't make you any more accomplished, it's an area of interest and that's all it's going to be in your life unless you work as a director or critic. Don't know what the fuck your cousin does and I don't care but he doesn't like movies and music the way you do. So what? I know smart people who only watch Michael Bay shit. He sounds like a chode honestly but you got to understand you aren't going to turn him into Roger Ebert by shoving Letterboxd's top 100 down his throat if he doesn't care for movies.
