anons who have diagonsed autism or adhd.

I'm going to my pcp to just ask a few questions and get his opinion. I wrote down a list of symptoms of autism/adhd that I have, and i'm pretty confident I have it.

But, im in university, can pass my classes, and work part time. I guess I would consider myself high functioning, do go to parties, drink/smoke, and have fun with friends. But theres no way i'm not autistic.

The conversations I enjoy are with other people who can have stupid but logical conversations about observations on life or anything at all really.

If i do have it, should I even bother getting tested or medicated if I would be considered high functioning?

Either way i'm going to just talk and ask questions.

I was diagnosed ADHD as an adult.

I don't think it's worth it for you to get disgnosed. In fact, in some countries they use the criteria "impacted in multiple areas of life" as a diagnostic criteria (so, for example, it causes issues in your family life, work life, and leisure). I only got diagnosed because it started to become debilitating - I'm close to losing my job, amongst other things - and genuinely needed help. If it's not something you need fixing, you're taking away support from someone else who really needs it.

In what way would putting a label on who you are enhance your life?

I highly doubt ADHD. You will probably be high functionibg autistic. If you do have ADHD or both maybe you're a rare high functioning one. Or maybe it's just my adhd that's fucked compared to other adhds. Idk man, a lot of factors play into it. I got raised in a fucked up way by alcoholic parents so adhd & lack of cognitive development can make the disorder magnify in intensity.

Sames true for autists. I've met one autist who can get all the girls and have sex but doesn't know how to go into any serious relationships. Met another who can never get a girlfriend but can make make friends very quickly. Met an autist who can neither get friends or a girlfriend. And then I met one who needs to be told how to leave his bed (yes he doesn't even know how to get out of a bed).

It's worth diagnosis. Might not be worth medicating. Knowing yourself and your own limitations can help prevent you from falling into a rut. Just remember those limits are meant to be challenged and broken. Never identify fully as the disorder, only see yourself as a person with a disorder. Cuz you're more than just the disorder at the end of the day. Treat the disorder like a feature, like having brown hair or green eyes etc. but never let it rule your life either

Reason I doubt adhd is because that's the disorder that doesn't impair social skills if anything can enhance them. And by social skills I don't mean just going to parties I mean actually understanding social patterns and social cues and even being able to use pattern recognition to connect with others almost instantly, adhds are socially gifted that way. But then that all goes to shit when you see our personal lives beyond the social pageantry, our retardation is cognitively we are fucked. Can't even remember to check and email on time, can't even keep a single room tidy, clutter and chaos everywhere, often unable to hold down a fucking job. It's like having the personality of a success but the actual life of loser. I hate adhd so much. Thankfully I got medicated and got my shit together and an functional now tho

Wish I got your form of ADHD. Do mostly inattentive types have the social gift, too? I'm not socially inept like an autist, but I've got anxiety and people tend to think I'm stuck-up or too serious.

Inattentive type for me as well. My social skills dulled and burned out for a time but it comes and goes. It really depends if socializing is the hyperfocus. And you know how that works, hyperfocus comes and goes and cannot be chosen. If you try to socialize when socializing isn't the hyperfocus, you will appear avoidant or distant or overly serious. When socializing is the hyperfocus, you become the most charming and silver-tongued mother fucker on the planet.

I've heard of the different adhd types "hyperactive/inattentive/mixed" I personally don't believe in the typing. I think every single person with adhd is all three, it just depends on what's going on in their life at the time. If an adhd is unhindered by social anxiety and depression, they will appear hyperactive. If life fucks them in the ass and they crawl into their own head, they become inattentive. If part of their life is functional but another part is a source of stress, they'll appear "mixed".

Having a diagnosis usually can only impede a person (think, legal bureaucracy stuff). The only exception is if you plan on NEETmaxxing, but if you're genuinely high-functioning this might not be your goal.
>or medicated
I'd be wary of your motivations to get into substance use. Of course only you truly know yourself, so give it some thought, especially if (as you said) it isn't really necessary. I've met people with a diagnosis for such things who then slipped into abusing their perscriptions and it was ugly. Don't let that become you.
