I'm considering getting an e bike to travel to work (I don't have a license). I've been looking at Walmarts Concord bike, and I was wondering if it was good enough to travel 12 miles to and from work? Should I invest into something better? Is riding an e bike as dangerous as riding a bike after 11pm? I'm new to e biking and was wondering if I could get input from people who are more experienced, maybe the pros and cons and what I should look out for
go for it
>>34460682Gay. Use a regular bicycle. Get a dog bone wrench. Use Slime. Stay on the right side. Get a license.
>>34460695Do you use an e bike? Is it cool if you shared your experience?
>>34460682>Is riding an e bike as dangerous as riding a bike after 11pm? In regards to car traffic, yes it is. Make sure that you're easy to see in the dark with the safety reflectors. I saw a guy wearing a high visibility safety vest while riding his electric scooter on the shoulder of the road at night. He's a champ for doing that.
>>34460773this, ebikes are for poofsget a road bike and work towards your licenceif you end up liking cycling you can keep the road bike as a hobby
>>34462628>>34460773Hey stupid fucks, you expect me to cycle 24 miles a day, 5 days a week?
>>34462587Man, im considering looking for a different job then. I already don't feel comfortable getting home late on a faux motorcycle
>>34462891My not-very-fit girlfriend regularly cycles more than 50 miles in a day. Stop being such a fucking weakling.
>>34460682Need bigger battery so you can make it home if you forget to charge it while you're workingNeed mid shaft motor if it's a hilly ride Don't skimp on a helmet
>>3446289124 miles?thats nothing lmao, my 70 year old father regularly cycles four times that
>>34462898You're right: cycling for an hour, then immediately going to work for 8 hours, just to cycle for another hour-- for 5 days a week is a phenomenal idea. I made a thread previously asking if it was ok to cycle 1.5 hours to and from work, and multiple people who actually cycle said that was a horrible idea! But 30 minutes less makes a huuuuge difference! Man, where were you in that thread, huh? Shoulda told those numb nuts about your super strong girlfriend, huh? Put those weak boys to shame!
>>34462903Yeah, I'd definitely make sure I had a helmet. How do you even charge e bikes? I didn't realize they existed until someone recommended I use one. I saw some bikes saw they can travel 20 miles, but some people tested it can go slightly above that
>>34462931i detected sarcasmto clarify, it is absolutely fine to cycle an two hours a dayits even fine to cycle three hours a saythis wont kill you
>>34462932you plug them into the wall
>>34462941I might be able to do it since I'm no stranger to tough workouts, but to cycle another hour after a full time shift? That's basically 10 hours of working out, if you count the 8 hours as light cardio. All of this for 5 days a week. Many people who cycle often really didn't recommend this
>>34462942Fucking really? How much does that raise the electric bill, I wonder...
>>34462943thats not the worst part really, when youre actually doing it you can just dog it easily since you go on full autocommuting itself is tiring regardless, driving is no less mentally exhaustingthe worst part is sitting at work for 8 hours all sweatybut that will happen with an ebike just as well, at least if youre young enough>>34462945basically negligible, like 10p for a completely full charge
>>34462960What is happening? I made a thread that lasted for a good while before, and multiple people said biking for more than 30 minutes for commute was bad, and 1.5 hours was even worse. Now I've got people saying biking for 2 hours a day is totally fine?
>>34463410european hoursin north america cycling is only really seen as a sport, here its just another mode of transportation
>>34463410maybe it depends on one's physical fitness. i'm lazy and don't exercise, so biking more 30 min. sounds physically exhausting to me. plus you have to deal with the weather.
>>34463675I'm no stranger to tough cardio workouts, but an hour of cycling still sounds pretty tiring when you've got a full time job ahead of you. Plus the sweat sounds awful, especially if you can't freshen up at work
Fuck what other people say dude,If you want an E bike do it. I got a nice Ozark trail bike I got from Walmart. Nice for offroad and on street. I should get a helmet honestly. I put 280 miles on it so far and still have fun with it. I added a speaker and I bolted a lockbox to the back to keep air pump, tube patches, etc in. I love it. I ride quads and dirt bikes too so fuck people that bash ya.
>>34463695Could I interview you for a second? Some e bikes advertise a specific mileage the throttle(?) can take you before becoming just a normal, heavy bike. The concord says 20 miles, but riders report a slightly higher mileage. What does the Ozark bike claim is it's milage, and do you stick within it or have you found that you can push the limits a little?Could I just ride the bike like a very slow motorcycle the entire time? I don't know how to ride a bike, and I would rather not get sweaty before work. My trek would be 12 miles to and from work, so ~24 miles in total. What's it like riding at night? Is it dangerous like cycling at night? Do you stick to the sidewalk when you ride?I heard you have to keep the tires pumped. How often should I pump the tires? Thanks
So the Ozark trail gets about 25 miles of battery. That’s only because it has a 10hz battery in it which means if I had a 15hz battery I’d get about 35-40 miles. It also depends on if you just use throttle or peddle assist. Thing is you NEED peddle assist or else you’re peddling a 70lb bike. But with the peddle assist on 1 you’ll only go about 10-15 mph. So it’s a nice pace cruise.I always peddle assist. I keep it at 1 or 2 and I have my gear on 5 or 6. It really helps with saving the battery and wear on the motor. Also weight is a big factor. I’m 140 lbs so I cruise very nicely. It comes with a headlight, pretty bright but I did add my own 8000 limen headlamp to it and just use that instead. (Saves a little battery juice) Riding at night is easy BUT I do not live in the city. I’m in a rural Pennsylvania coal town. I stick to the streets mostly, little traffic and the side walks here are absolute shit. Some parts don’t have sidewalks. Also We got hills and it handles hills very well.I always check the tires before I leave and always always have a small dog bone wrench, allen keys, tube patches, and a portable air pump. They all fit in my small 6x6 box I have bolted to back rack.I did add an extra battery connector to the bike but unless you’re electrical savvy I’d avoid doing all that. Me and my friends will usually do 20 miles one way and 20 miles back. If you wanna know more just ask. Hope this help.
>>34463813That more or less answers all of my questions. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out
