In your opinion, how can a person become better and a good person?

Be honest unless not being honest is for the best, have integrity, have compassion AND strength, be okay with getting damaged but avoid damage if possible so that you can be stronger to help people that are damaged REALLY bad.

All of this
I have personally come to accept that a part of my soul is just plain evil, and that we have to judge ourselves by our actions, not our thoughts

1) Be open-minded. Never judge a person on the basis of prejudice. And even when considering their actual words or actions, consider context; and consider that there may well be context that you're not aware of.

2) Develop empathy, both in the sense of caring more about other people's feelings, and in the sense of understanding them.

3) Put other people's needs before your own...

4) ...but not to such an extent that you neglect your own happiness and wellbeing. If you make yourself miserable and unhealthy by ignoring your own needs, you'll be no use to anyone.

5) Consider both direct and indirect consequences of your words and actions.

6) Never give up on being a good person, even if it seems hopeless.

7) Play to your strengths, and don't waste your talents.

Consider everyone. Always provide a reach around.

1 Do as little harm as possible.
2 Within the bounds of #1, do as much good as possible
3 Within the bounds of 1 and 2, find as much joy as possible.

Be good to yourself
Be good to others
Do not expect anything in return
Either from yourself (don't expect to feel happy 24/7)
Or from others (don't expect others to feel positive or be nice to you 24/7)
Have boundaries, don't give kindness to placate others or try to manipulate them into being nice
Instead just tell that person "No" when you feel that your boundaries are crossed
Understand that people who are mean and abusive are those who were also abused or treated poorly
But also understand it is not your job to be their savior, simply remind them of who they are, who they used to be, before they fell. Tell them they have it in them to be better
Understand your own flaws your own faults and imperfections
You are not God you are not Jesus you are not Buddha you are not a saint
But you are not the Devil either
You're just a man
And around you are other human beings
All of them have something they love and something they fear
All of them were born laying down, all of them will die laying down.
The life in between should be respected, so just respect others. Those who disrespect you, tell them you respect them, but also tell them you respect yourself and that is why you must say goodbye.

Act according to my morals.
Different people have different definitions of good. Ask a muslim, a Christian, an atheist and a Buddhist what a good person is and you will get 4 different answers. If you country has little cultural diversity becoming a good person in that local area will become easier. Look at different every day problems in your culture and look how the majority of people would answer this. Like the others said honesty is favored by probably everybody. Make other people feel like you are actually interested in their perspectives and ideas. Smile, ask further questions, etc. Be loyal etc. Most of this normal stuff is pretty trivial and will be obvious to you if you life in that culture. Now look at more complex cultural topics. If you life in a progressive city most people their will probably understand vegans as good and omnivore as unmoral and thus a bad person. Same for feminism, 2SLGBTQI+, polygamy, etc. You will get cucked hard, but will be a good person according to most people. If you want to be a good person according to your own moral standard, abandon these spooks.

>good person?
Only Jesus is good, but you can be a "better" person by emulating Him, that's my opinion.

I tried that a few days ago and people got irritated and thought I was being fake. I wasn't being fake. I'm just tired of getting yelled at or people giving me weird looks because they're having miserable day or just plain assholes.
