I am a British person living in the UK. How do I attend a university in Japan? I want to study computer science. I'm looking at joining around 2028 and I don't even know where to start

You must learn japanese and pass the JLPT exams which are twice a year depending on your location, don't remember up to which level, to apply for a MEXT scholarship. The exam is heavy on reading comprehension and professional idioms for both english and japanese, there is a short maths part that evaluates up to basic linear algebra, being the majority hard highschool level precalculus exercises. You have to have in mind one university, write an essay why would you like to study in that university and how would you apply that knowledge back in your home country. I don't know whether you have to pass the admittance exam for the university in addition to all this. I don't know if for undergrad you must be in contact with some faculty to be sponsored and tutored by him, but i think it works like that for postgrads.

That's too much trouble to me. A local university is usually much more practical in the end.

Japan is stuck in the past concerning computer science. You will have a far better education in the USA or Europe. If you have Yellow fever, do your studies in your country and try to infiltrate the Asians circle in your university, there is always one.
