How do i explain to my parents that job hunting isnt how it used to be ?
for context:
>have a 1st BSc STEM degree
>full manual drivers license with no points
>2 years experience in entry level job i hated
>dropped out of my Master's course last week because there are literally no jobs at the end of it and i wasn't going to pass anyway
>late 20's still living with parents and a complete mental wreck, having nervous breakdowns almost every day lately
everytime i tell my dad i am trying he insists i am not trying hard enough and that because i have a strong STEM degree i should be applying for managerial roles and not just everything.
he literally doesn't understand that there are NO JOBS.
i genuinely think about killing myself everyday since i've dropped out of my master's course because it feels so hopelessly pointless.
i've tried telling him no-one wakes up one day and decides they want to be a pathetic NEET living with their parents at the age where they should be married and buying a home but he still doesn't get it.
im not even ungrateful, i feel sorry for my parents that they still have me living with them, making a thread like this.
literally how are you meant to survive this shit and not go insane ?
i have no one else to ask.

>there are NO JOBS.
There are jobs.
There aren't as many attractive jobs as there are applicants. The best candidates - those who don't drop out because they're failing - do find jobs and careers. The rest - those who have too little to offer potential employers - must either retrain and redefine themselves or settle for the jobs they CAN get.

"Would you like fries with that?"

Ask your parents to help you find a job of the calibre they are expecting. Let them discover first hand just how difficult it is.

Two things will happen. 1. You'll get them on your side annd off your back, 2. Three people searching might find something better than one person searching.

i have qualifications and experience though and it makes no difference.
you say i dropped out as if i dont have the highest grade possible for my BSc subject, school grades and a drivers licence (which are getting insanely hard to get in bongland) and was perceptive enough to realise my master's course was a fools end for employment.
everything is fucked.

i appreciate the advise anon, i thought of showing just how many jobs i've applied for instead to show them but honestly the temptation to just rent a van, buy a bag of charcoal and smoke myself out of this shitty life is constantly in my thoughts lately.

i feel you bro. In the same situation but a bit older. Sucks, but i’m trying to get a regular job for now that has nothing to do with my degree

>STEM degree
Have you asked the school to help?
"Graduate employability" is such an important metric to schools that they will literally employ you themselves before admitting their graduates can't find jobs. It might be a crummy call-center-esque job cold-calling alumni for donations, but a paycheck's a paycheck.
They might also be able to hook you up with alumni for internships or opportunities as well as helping you with your resume and interviewing skills.
Reach out to them; at least it's someone to ask.

im glad im not alone.
i hope you find anything anon, sometimes life just feels like its trying its best to tell you it hates you for daring to exist.
my schizo theory is that rich peoppe designed the system to be like this on purpose to put obedience into their workers.
>>34479427
i have contacted them for references so they do know i'm currently not employed but your suggestion is good.
i'll have a look and see what they say, thanks anon.

It's fucked out there my guy. It isn't about being the most qualified on paper, it's about what the hiring manager is really looking for, the expectations they think you'll have as an employee (is he gonna want immediate promotion or is he okay with what's being offered for X years). Unfortunately a lot of assumptions get made about applicants and I would know since I work in HR. Yes, I know, I'm a faggot. Be that as it may, I either see a shit loads of applicants to every job or the hiring manager wants this one super specific thing. The entry level market is also totally fucked. Everywhere wants 5 years of experience even if they say otherwise. If it makes you feel any better, despite being HR, I'm in the same boat. I am currently working but I'm not happy and there's shit all for openings that I'm qualified for. Or what I am qualified for pays a fuck load less than what I'm currently making.

Why are you listening to the judgement of people who are manifestly wrong over your own?
If you're feeling pressed, just embrace the risk of worse relationship with your parents, having access to less money/resources, and/or taking less "ideal" jobs (really the jobs you should be going for)
Also your parents failed as parents if they're putting you in a state like this, so you just have to accept that they suck (at least at the specific job of parenting - but most likely in most things) and just move on

>everything is fucked.
And yet if you accord yourself to the world and seek opportunities the depression vanishes
If you accept that it might all go tits up

Nice try, OP, but that was me 18 years ago.

I have a GED and never went more than a couple weeks without a job. You must be looking in the wrong place.
>>
>>34482091
When's the last time you had to look for one?
>>
>>34482129
I have not worked for maybe five years but I still receive offers for mechanic and teacher in text and mail. What work are you looking for? Yeah, I imagine it is bullshit these days. You probably have to download an app to have an interview. Better to circumvent the system, I’d imagine.

> complete mental wreck, having nervous breakdowns almost every day lately
although I'm sure that having a job will alleviate some of this you might need to work on adjusting your attitude and baseline neurosis

it took me a month of applying and about 100 apps to get one. seek career counseling services from your Department of labor or university. Apply to local universities (lots of stem positions) and apply directly to
companies in your industry or adjacent. LinkedIn and indeed are useless. and if you were applying to all these jobs with the same résumé then you're doing it wrong
