>tfw went for job interview at local Starbucks this morning and they asked if I can start on Tuesday>tfw still waiting to hear back from more career-relevant job I interviewed for this Tuesday (interview went well but idk how strong the other applicants were), but probably only will next weekshould I blag to the Starbucks and ask if I could start next Friday instead for example? don't want to be a dick and start only to quit a few days later if I get the better job
>>34485979responding to this guy also, I'm broke and my unemployment's run out, but I'm living with my mom again so have a bit of leeway (but she wants me to get a job asap understandably). I don't want to turn down the $tarbucks though if I don't get the other job
Just get the job, and quit if you get another offer, if you tell them you're starting Friday, it will go this way:"Alright, you don't need to come here Tuesday""So... Can I come Friday?""No, you don't need to come here at all."If you quit, you will burn this bridge too btw. Because it cost money to hire someone, and they literally didn't hire other people just to hire you. You should have told them during the interview process, but if you did, they wouldn't have hired you.
>>34485997>"Alright, you don't need to come here Tuesday">"So... Can I come Friday?">"No, you don't need to come here at all."I mean ngl, if they said this then I'd honestly consider that a bullet dodged. But I suppose beggars can't be choosers.>should have told them during the interview processMaybe so, oh well (I did say I would have to double check when I can start next week)What would you do in my shoes right now though? (I emailed/called back the other job this afternoon but probably won't hear back til next week)
>>34485997Update, literally just heard back from the other job that they'll let me know by end of TuesdayShould I call back Starbucks and ask if I could start e.g. Wednesday instead of Tuesday lol
>>34485978Do it. Fuck Starbucks. They have insanely high turnover anyway, so they’re prepared for you to quit after a few days. You can even get a few free drinks the days you do work there.
>>34486019Lol, I hate the corporation also, but the lady/team seemed nice, this particular outlet doesn't have a high turnover at all apparently (a longtimer is leaving)So don't want to screw them over, but it's not my first choice... I might just call and ask if I can start Wednesday instead (I actually have another interview on Thursday for another afternoon off - if I'm put down on a shift for them I'll have to make up an excuse...)
>>34486030*for another much better job
>>34486019Just spoke to the manager and she said it's fine if I start on Wed instead and have Thurs afternoon off (so hopefully I'll hear from the other job by then, and can still do interview for another better job...) guess I was stressing over nothing lol
>>34486008>What would you do in my shoes right now though?I would accept the Starbucks offer and quit if I got something better. I know I would be burning that bridge, but I just don't care. It's not like I will want to work there any time soon.
>>34485978>should I blag to the Starbucks and ask if I could start next Friday instead for example? don't want to be a dick and start only to quit a few days later if I get the better jobAs the other anon said, don't fool yourself that quitting Starbucks after three days is going to send them into an existential crisis, you probably won't even be the only person that did it this week.
>>34486016no, ffs what is wrong with you? take the job, leave if a better offer materialises.
>>34485978>don't want to be a dick and start only to quit a few days later if I get the better jobwhy? fuck them. if there was some sort of AI agentic tentacle that was 0.08% quicker at pushing cash register buttons and stirring coffee they'd lay you off in a heartbeat. rules about decorum and consideration don't apply to management if it keeps you from earning even one dollar more. stop being a cuck
>>34485978>>34486016do you think quitting a job is illegal or smth
>>34485978Take what you can get! Then while you work you look for other work
>>34485978Its not being a dick. Its looking out for yourself and keeping options open. You cant be picky. Tae whaever job comes at u 1st. Only leave if you 100% have anther job ready to start
>>34486119Thanks anon, yeah if I don't get this better job then I'll just start at the Starbucks on Wed, but still go to the other interview on Thurs>>34486132>ffs what is wrong with youHow long have you got...>>34486125>>34486175>>34486507Thanks anons, maybe I am overthinking it, I just feel bad about quitting a job shortly after starting... then again, if I do, I'm sure they can quickly find someone else to make overpriced coffees and clean tables, it's not rocket science...
