Been at a bar yesterday with my mate, he's met his old friends from high school. I was left to talk with randoms and we clicked a lot, same interests, same music, same hobbies (drawing, lifting), got their instagram. How do I stay in touch with them considering we live in the same city and I don't fancy going drinking multiple times a month? My idea of staying in touch with friends I can't see on a daily is either calling up to talk, sending reels or playing vidya.

Do the drinking couple times a year then, at least.

Do that if they're interested.

what's your idea of a hobby I'm curious

how do I nonchalantly ask that without sounding like I'm desperate

Stop overthinking it. If they like you they won’t give a shit if you do your own thing. People like people who are relaxed and friendly. You can’t be either if you’re constantly trying to meet other people’s expectations and not your own. If you haven’t already, drop them a text and say something like “great to meet you the other night, let’s stay in touch and grab a coffee or another drink some time”. Just nice and chill. You don’t have to go get a coffee or a drink; it’s just a way to let them know you want to stay in touch and you’d like to do shit with them.

That's good to hear mate, you made it, it's somewhat rare these days.

For keeping in contact, I suggest adding them in social media, steam, whatsapp, discord, that sort of thing. You can interact a bit with them here and there, maybe schedule some outing, or watch something together, gather folks to play some vydia, bingo, etc.

Don't overthink stuff too much, just enjoy the person's company. Think about how you handled your old friendships. that might help.

Good advice, hopefully OP takes it.

Talked with one, asked about an interest if his uni environment perhaps organizes it, it does not, we've had a small chat and he said he'll be sure to hit me up when he's free because he's stuffed with work. Sent a reel as well and it didn't work, when we've talked he didn't seem to like games that much.

Yeah it's over

I understand this. What I don't understand is, nobody (absolutely nobody) seems to do the approaching, I feel like I want and need to be around people and they don't show obvious signs of accepting me. What is one to do to approach others and what is one to look for to tell they like being with me, when they never make the first step?

"Hi. I was thinking of taking my sketchbook out to the park this weekend to see what inspired me. Want to join me?"

Stay with friends I already have and wait to see if that guy actually invites me over.
