With how things in the world are getting worse and starting to regress in almost every way, how do you stay hopeful? All I can do is just distract myself with unrealistically happy fictional media.
>>34495697if you have a good life you don't have to worry about things in the news or social media. There's very little you can control besides your own life. I focus on my work, my friends, exercise, and cooking. Any amount of time that I spend away from headlines makes me think of them less
>>34495697I believe in salvation through the sacrifice of my lord and savior, Jesus the Christ
>34495776NTA, but what if you're not in control of your own life, then what?>34495942Frig off, christfag.
>>34495697By only placing your hope in things that you can directly control. I don't hope to be successful, or even to have a meal to eat or a place to live tomorrow. But I do hope that I can become more patient and show more care for others tomorrow. I can't control the former if fortune turns against me, but the latter is completely within my power to achieve no matter what happens, and any failure will only be my own doing. Essentially, you simply have to stop worrying about yourself and begin thinking primarily in terms of how you treat others.
>>34495697I dont. I want a comfortable death.
>>34495697cut out social media and news consooomptionfocus on the real world more than the online one and one of the few ways you can do that is to get an activity/hobby which forces you out of your homebe stubbornly optimistic, like, almost angry about the lack of said hopefulness in the world, but not to the point that anger takes over, might help to drive change in your immediate circle of friends or family, does so for me at leastif you've experienced a state of prolonged hopefulness in the past, in your childhood perhaps, cling to that, find songs or other form of art from those times which will put you in that state again. this last one really forced me out of a rut, i've been binge listening to a playlist of my old songs which were far more optimistic in tone than what came later
>>34495697If you have money there is no reason not to be very happy. >>34496706Bullshit
>>34497512money has never made anyone happy
>>34497519Right, go on YouTube find a video of a guy receiving 1000$
>>34497577temporary excitement isn't happiness
>>34498074There's little difference between the two. Even if you're speaking about overall mood boosts, the hedonic treadmill comes into play
>>34495697Most people are just distracting themselves anon. Focusing on what is closer to you and within control is another distraction. It's fine though and is needed given the state of things. But don't forget that the people creating all these stories emotionally charge them for mass engagement, and the most engaging shit is the most seemingly abhorrent. Seemingly because, a lot of it is bullshit. Combing through it all will only frustrate you further, so your unrealistic happy media isn't bad by comparison
>>34498495they're polar opposites. excitement and disappointment are two sides of the same coin, in the same way that pain and pleasure are. there is no such thing as pleasure without pain, and no such thing as excitement without disappointment. happiness is remote from all of those, and is defined by the fact that it's calm, peaceful, wants nothing, gets excited by nothing, expects nothing. a "hedonic treadmill" is as far from happy as you can get.
