hello. this all started a little bit ago with the cats incontinence. at first she was just going outside of the litter box. and then it changed to her going anywhere in the living room. and now she is literally pissing on the couch (where she lays) and laying in it. i am at my wits end. the cat is 18 years old. she is also my bfs late mothers cat, so she is very important. but, i am going to tell you it is driving me up a wall.do i want the cat euthanized? no. do i want the cat gone? absolutely not. neither of these are even close to being the case i love her and she loves me so much and i know how important she is.problem is im literally cleaning up her pee basically all day. i woke up today and saw she had pissed all over her pillow that she lays on, and laid in it, all night. it is getting worse and i don’t know what to do and i don’t want to be one of those people that starts resenting their loved one bc of their animal. it is really affecting me and i can’t just keep her off the couch but im going to do it until my bf wakes up. it just so happens the couch is where i sit all day. my bf doesn’t go through it, he sits in his chair. this all wouldn’t be too bad but my parents used to care for a lot of cats and the smell of cat pee is bringing up a lot of horrible memories and making me associate them with each other bc my parents were horrific. my bf says she’s so old that caring for her is a lost cause (vet wise) so that’s not an option, and honestly i don’t even know what that would do, it’s clearly incontinence. he doesn’t want to dump thousands of dollars into her given her age. i get where he’s coming from, sure…. but god. i can only take so much.please help. i don’t want to hate my boyfriend.

>>34500760Most common reason for cat incontinence is UTI. Take her to the vet, get a urinalysis to confirm (costs like 50 bucks) and then put her on some antibiotics for a week. Also, maybe some water proof liners for the pillow or bed.

Likewise they can at least give you tips more informed than i about how to practically deal with the day to day. they may be able to get your boyfriend to acknowledge reality that your cat needs help.you are a good person. its exhausting caring for the ones we love even if we love them. again, take her to the vets to do checks for stuff. Additionally, I don't say this lightly, but as someone down to just 1 of his childhood pets (originally 4 cats and 1 dog), cats can appear relatively okay but be in a lot of pain. The biggest sign that they are really hurting is if they try to start spending most of their day in isolated places to curl up, as well as really decreased appetite. They may still be receptive to the ones they love coming to them and cuddling even at this state (all 3 of my cats we had to let go were this way, none of them got angry when we would lie down next to them). My youngest (she was born in 2010) had to be put down 2 weeks ago and it really hurt not being there, but I trust my Mom and she said that her demeanor really changed in the way mentioned above.I say this to just be on the look out. That said, since your boyfriend seems to not be totally rational regarding her, just do your best you can. I don't say this encourage being hasty, with all my pets (besides my youngest who got really bad over the span of a week like I said), I could tell that they were really knackered towards the end, but thankfully there was always something about them that told me they knew they were loved. again just do your best, nothing about this is easy.
