How? My grandfather messed around with not paying taxes and they were happy to take a repayment plan. Sure there were penalties but you must really be up shit creek if they want to go straight to jail time
>>34506222I don't think I am going to jail, but basically I am unemployed and receive unemployment benefits in my country (not USA).I have been unemployed for like 4 years because I just have mental problems with getting along with other people, so I found a way to make money online by doing like surveys and market research. I did the surveys for hours a day over a year and made a few thousand dollars, but the unemployment office are saying basically because I receive benefits from them who pay my rent/bills, I have to inform them of this money I made and it should be taxed like 50% because it is considered "self employment".The thing is it's clearly not self employment, I am not like a skilled worker with customers, I just decided instead of applying for jobs I could sit at home and do this full-time. Well clearly it's not "right" to do that and its clearly in breech of the unemployment benefits agreement, so either they will ask for the money they paid me back for the entire time I did this, or they will ask for 50% of what I made.I don't have that money, but I still can continue to work this way and I figure I could probably make the money back in like 3-4 months IF like you said they give me a fair repayment plan.My only defense in this matter is that for the 4 years prior, they really didn't give a fuck I was clearly a mess of a person and not employable, I would have been sat at home doing fuck all and not paying any tax at all and they wouldn't have stopped me/helped the situation. It's only that I found out myself how to make money they now say it's their entitled money.
