I'm about 2 years into a 30-year mortgage, and there's still around $190k left for me to pay. I recently came into some money, and I want to pay the entire thing off ASAP. The next time I make a payment, if I enter the exact remaining principal amount into the "extra principal" box, what exactly will happen?
>>34510259>these giant pair
>>34510259just curious, where do you like where you are only 2 years into a mortgage and only have 190k let to pay? Im 4 years into a 30 year mortgage and have like $320 left but I live in SoCal so yeah.
>>34510259Check the small print in your mortgage agreement first. There is quite likely a limit to how much you can overpay each month, and if you go over that there can be major penalties.
>>34510376Colorado. The place cost about $300k.>>34510423I don't see anything on an "Additional Principal" limit, but there is a "Payoff" option. Apparently I can use that if I want to instantly pay the whole remaining amount.
>>34510423>There is quite likely a limit to how much you can overpay each month, and if you go over that there can be major penaltiesthats the most insane thing I have ever read. The entire economy needs to be destroyed and rebuilt
>>34510489What the other guy said about early payment penalties is definitely true on some loans, so check your loan agreement before you pay off.Assuming everything is okay, you will get a letter in the mail stating that your mortgage is paid off and the account is closed. If they overdraft for any reason, they will send you a refund check eventually.
>>34510677noice, thank you.i still need to scrape together a little bit more money before i have enough to pay it all, while still having some left over in case of emergencies. i'm thinking some time around mid-july is when i'll pay it off. i'm excited.
>>34510513why would the bank allow you to pay off an entire loan and get out of the thousands in interest you agreed to pay in order to get the loan? you have to pay penalties because you owe them for the lending. they have to get it either way. that's how banks work.
