when I was young I wanted nothing more than to be a writer, I went through my twenties failing uni's and eventually turning my grades around to get a comp sci degree. But I didn't write anything in my twenties due to stress, work, etcIm almost done , market is dead and cooked. Anything I wanted to be - is a dead end or too competitive (comp sci and writing) - I just wanna I can't even get a job flipping burgers cause I don't have any food certs or anything but I'd be willing to start over. I just want to pick a lane and direction that leads to stability. I don't mind putting in long days and working hard, as long as I'm paid enough for car/food/my own apartment. But moreso than any of this - I just feel incredibly lost and listless , stripped of career/purpose. Should I double down on tech and make some last hail mary cool projects before it all comes crashing down, should I write some novels before it all comes to an end and I become a druggie homeless person? I'm tempted to do military but I'm too old / have bad knees. This is a genuine cry for help , so if we could cool it with the meanness for this that would be great.
>>34511227>I can't even get a job flipping burgers cause I don't have any food certs
>>34511233yea yea im getting the certs but my degree has taken priority so its always one fire after another I have no food experience though and am thoroughly aged out at 30 though
>>34511239im non USA btw , job market here is ass hence the pessimism
Writers (non-fraud) don't want to be writers they just write
>>34511227leave social media, if you work with the pc social media (4chan included) is the worst way to spend your free timealso ruins your writing
>>34511227You're looking all the wrong avenues.Do something you don't hate. You clearly hate writing because you didn't write shit, do something you actually do right now instead. If nothing really sticks you have to experiment with all things until you find one. If you still can't click with anything, pick a specialized desk job, something that sounds like a big degree should do better but it's actually too easy/grunt work so they feel overqualified to do. That way you wiggle your way to a bullshit job that nobody can deny and doesn't have to put max effort.
>>34511227>market is dead and cooked. Anything I wanted to be - is a dead end or too competitive (comp sci and writing)those are excuses, honestlyyou went through all the effort/stress & spent your twenties getting a degree, it seems like a waste not to take advantage of ityou don't need crazy projects necessarily, but if you got some certifications in combination with your degree, i'm sure you could get a stable job somewheremaybe not a software engineer necessarily, but maybe a sysadmin or even a repair technician, those would both be pretty decent/comfy jobshopefully the area you're in has decent local jobs, if not you should probably moveeasy to think of """the market""" as a big global immutable monolith but it's not like that, you have to be opportunistic & explore your local environment/community, as scary as that might sound it's just tediousi understand the market is worse than 10 years ago and the position you're in sounds frustrating, finally finishing the degree but only when things are fuckedbut just get ahold of yourself, idk what else to say, you're in a decent position you just need to find a stable job like you saidbe pragmatic/opportunistic you'll be ok
>>34511746this might be good advice but you should just find a stable job for now, OP, beggars can't be choosers and there's plenty of opportunityonce you have some stability (you say you want to be able to afford a car/apartment, if you don't have those there's no point finding the perfect career), then think about advancementmaybe..just throw shit at the wall for now, don't overthink, that's my point>>34511503this alsodon't give up writing but don't try to make a living from it, just worry about your situation for now & write if/when you feel like it
>>34511242>im non USA btw , job market here is ass hence the pessimismah i see, that's an important detailstill, try to be opportunistic/pragmatic like i said, don't worry about """the market""" just look in your local environment & community
Same. Bump.
I guess another important detail is that I have diagnosed adhd but non medicated
>>34511698>leave social media, if you work with the pc social media (4chan included) is the worst way to spend your free timethis is literally me lol>>34511746>>34511759will give these a try , the problem is a lot of these roles also get taken by people more qualified then me / there's always an indian somewhere ready to take it for less. I don't actually hate a lot of jobs besides sales, I hate sales.
