I was actually shocked one day when I was in the hospital ER just receiving my diagnosis of blood clots. And I was telling the doctor in front of the nurses that one of my friends has just died the other week of a heart attack, and the doctor just briefly said "oh no" for like a split second then immediately changed the subject to giving the nurses some orders and then immediately walked out of the room. Now I dunno, but if I was the doctor, would that be the appropriate response to give to a patient who just expressed their sadness that their friend has just died?
>>34511560Considering the huge pressure of med school and the sheer amount of stuff you have to remember, doctors are generally one of several types:> Mega-autists: Enjoys knowing things. Can remember everything and have the practical skills, but NO people skills.> Kind-hearted do-gooders: Knows just about enough. Has people skills and empathy in abundance. The ones in high pressure environments like ER will burn out and lose their people skills because they're so fucking tired from feeling everything.> Narc psychos: Enjoys having literal power over people's lives. Will pretend to be autistic so they don't have to respect you. Only show people skills if they think they can get something out of an interaction.> Poojinder Singh: Graduated top of his class from some random school in the middle of Maharashtra. Would probably make a great village doctor but chose to move to the West and be a hindrance instead. Probably don't know enough English to show empathy.
>>34511560Yeah, It’s fine. Dont let those fags inject you with anything.
>>34511560>Now I dunno, but if I was the doctor, would that be the appropriate response to give to a patient who just expressed their sadness that their friend has just died?Absolutely appropriate, yes. ER doctors are worked off their feet; they can't waste time trying to cheer people up; if they did, someone else might die while they're waiting.
>>34511560What the fuck is a doctor supposed to do for someone who is already dead? don't be a fucking timewaster with stupid irrelevant nonsense.
>>34511615>It’s fine
>>34511614>Poojinder SinghLMAO my attending doctor was actually indian xD I only saw him for like one minute while I was admittedHe had the indian accent and everything ahahahahahaha XD
>>34511560my sister is a doctor and she sometimes goes months without seeing anyone die but some other days and weeks she sees people die around at a rate that would destroy you if you take every death with the heaviness a civil wouldthey build armors, otherwise their work would be pretty grim
>>34511729Yeah, I guess it makes sense. Ya gotta put boundaries up emotionally or else the job will destroy you mentally.
>>34511560They see more people die in a week than you will in your lifetime. They have to develop a shell just to keep from going crazy
