Should I got grad school and get a master's degree in game development? Is there an easier way? It seems like getting a job in the game industry is really tough right now.
>>34518576>master's degree in game development?Lmao, no. That's fucking retarded. Just do Computer Science.
>>34518604How will that help me find a job in the game industry?
>>34518622If you're interested in doing software development, you will learn software development. If you're interested in nebulous jobs like "game designer", those are woman jobs now.And if you're trying to do 3d art, you're better off going to art school. The problem with this meme degree is that it doesn't focus on one single skill, so you become shit at multiple skills and you look like a fucking doofus with a "Master's in Game Development."
>>34518630I already know how to do software development. What I'm interested in is networking in order to land me a job. I doubt you would know much about having a job though since you hang out on anonymous imageboards all day.
Anyways, I gotta go now. I'll check back on the thread later.
>>34518634>I already know how to do software development. What I'm interested in is networking in order to land me a job. That's also retarded. No one you meet in college is going to give you a job. Tell me, how exactly do you think this will go down? Think about this for 5 minutes.>I doubt you would know much about having a job though since you hang out on anonymous imageboards all day.Don't get butthurt. I have way more experience than you do, this is the advice board, and I am giving you advice.
>>34518576>It seems like getting a job in the game industry is really tough right now.what's with childish retards thinking more schooling will net them a job when they couldn't get one now? If you wanted to network with peers in the industry, you could do so now. If you wanted to work in the industry, you could do so now.>in game developmentmany of my cohorts have had successful careers in the industry without even a college degree. It's not about credentials, its about proven skills and talent. They all have great portfolio of software development or art. They got hired for the work they can produce- not through networking or otherwise.
>>34518576>how to find a job as a game devuhh, you make games? they want
CS Degree to prove you can program on some level or have been exposed to important conceptsPortfolio of kickass games you are proud of Do hackathons and get to know local game dev scene even though they're all a bunch of prissy egotistical faggots (you will learn this quickly) That's pretty much all you can do with no connections
At least when I was considering doing game development like 15 years ago, the consensus then from people in the industry was that getting a degree in game development was unnecessary and your portfolio mattered a lot more
>>34518576It's a doggy dog world out there, man.
>>34519019this. make games, have a portfolio, this will make you find the right people and keep searching for the job postings.
AI took all the jobs. You're shit out of luck and fucking cooked.
back when software engineering was a good job game dev was what software engineering is now, impossible to get into and only half the pay because tons of people wanted to do it and there were no where near enough positionsi can't imagine how bad it is now. of course you shouldn't even try, it's like being your future on being a YouTube influencer
>>34518576I know a guy who works for sega but I don’t know him very well and i do not know you at all. I think you missed the boat on this one, OP. You need to respawn from the last checkpoint and try something else.
>>34518576i have heard that the best way to get in the industry is to start as a QA
