How to lower baseline inhibition? I’ll try to keep it simple. I find that my brain for whatever reason gives me significant friction even on the tiniest tasks. Like there’s just high resistance to anything from expressing something irrelevant to just doing a basic thing. And it isn’t some form of anxiety either, rather it’s just persistent high inhibition in almost everything I do and think about without a clear cause. I take a stimulant medication for ADHD (lisdexamfetamine) but it doesn’t really do much for this at all, it just makes me more aware of my thought patterns in a logical way, but it doesn’t actually make me do things, nor did it cause this specific issue. I just wish I could somehow dissolve resistance so I could be truly spontaneous, so that as soon as a thought to do or try something comes I immediately get up and do so without hesistancy, without writing it down, without analyzing it in my head. I feel like this is just slowly ruining me, and I don’t think it’s always been to this extent either. It’s like a need to let go of it, to release the tension.

you can't dissolve resistance but you can try to act despite fear. you can even act AS IF you believe you might succeed or it may be pleasant or rewarding.

putting yourself in anxiety-inducing situations is literally the only way. that way you can realize that you aren’t actually threatened by the situation. I overcame my anxiety by going to bars and talking to ppl. It helped a lot now I can strike up a convo with almost anybody.

this >>34520363 is the best most reliable thing
try to create self-fulfilling prophecies & force yourself to believe them, it might sound hokey but it's how people end up trapped in negative & positive behavior loops
you can take advantage of it

will work but less reliably, and have drawbacks

forcing yourself into uncomfortable situations works, and can help you get comfortable with a specific scenario
this is useful if you're going to encounter that scenario frequently, like say learning to drive or getting a first job, but it won't work for one-off anxiety-inducing things, and force isn't sustainable hundreds of times

you can literally imagine you're an anime character & just do what they'd do, let your brain fill in the blanks & act
it's like mental tard strength

Used to have fucked up anxiety in school, completely defeated it by making the most out of anxiety inducing situations. It has returned badly now that I'm an adult and I'm struggling to tackle it in the same way

I think it should be more careful than that.

Exposing to stress "could" help you grow accustomed and see things more positive. However the most common reaction to stress would be numbing and detaching. You could face the stress and downplay the overall emotional impact by dismissing its intensity, for example, calling everything gay and saying everything is shit, but then you condition yourself to ruin your mood whenever you face the situation instead of navigating it to find good emotions in it. This is the road to become bitter and functional, not necessarily the one to make yourself cheerful.

yeah. the problem with me is i kind of have a mental reverse psychology thing going on sometimes. plus yeah just not being comfortable with something can be the case in the form of anxiety, but sometimes it’s just this weird sense of resistance to even normal tasks that hold no importance
