This is the second time this has happened. Both times I told her I was unhappy with something in our relationship, explained to her why and asked for some space, to which she is initially understanding and agree to.I've then had her desperately calling me saying she was planning to / attempting to kill herself and has been sectioned to a mental ward. She says if I leave her she will kill herself. What do I even do, I feel so trapped that I can't even have a normal conversation about our relationship let alone think about breaking up with her.

Buddy being sectioned once can be a wake up call, twice is a giant red flag. Get out. You don't owe her your life. Break up with her. Preferably while she is in the mental hospital tbqh. The other poster is correct about this.
