As a guy who has had medium length/long hair all my life with a bunch of different haircuts I'd say try to sleep with a coconut oil "mask" a few times. You could also get layers a certain way or even use hair wax/hairspray to make it look "thicker" you could probable even get like a perm or something. I have naturally thick wavy hair so I get it thinned out but getting thicker hair is actually not that hard you just have to experiment with products a bit and do your own research.
