If I were to be creative, would it be smarter to write novels or make music?

I know I have very slim chances of succeeding in either, but I posted a bit of a story I wrote on /lit/ and some guy told me he would buy the full book if I wrote it, nevermind everyone else saying it was pretty good

Even so, my chances are still slim and /lit/ responses don't exactly mean anything, no offense

But I do want to know which would be smarter to get into. Writing or music. I'm already decent at writing, but I'm a retard in a DAW.

But do people even still read? What is it like .00001% of the population that still reads?

Any advice? I really enjoy writing but with music there's such a learning curve, especially with music theory and everything. Makes me want to kms

I think writing is probably easier to start with since you just need to write and already have absorbed a lot of material already through school and whatnot, plus you already started it. I have no experience with either so take what I say with a grain of salt.

writing is easier and you will see results faster(hence, less burnout more motivation and etc)

for music you gotta study shit tonn of theory

so id go with writing

>for music you gotta study shit tonn of theory
Not necessarily true, if you practice a LOT you can get a natural feel for it without much theory at all beyond basic knowledge of musical keys and doing genre studies (matching genre of songs you like, with some changes). Of course some people prefer the theory route, but in my limited experience that route leads you to write simple childish crap nobody would ever listen to at first, which is demotivating. Then eventually you graduate to making generic radio slop. The "by ear" route lets you write interesting stuff from the start, but you will hit many many roadblocks along the way. But it's more fun.

Holy shit does pic related work?

You are not creative.

If you were, you wouldn't have to choose a medium. It would choose you.
>>
>>34541509 Just do writing for now. As for music? Try a wind instrument or piano. Pressing buttons to instantly make noise will feel more fun than a DAW without a MIDI keyboard connection set up.

This guy knows. But yeah instead of going all in on something, just try both and see how they feel

It looks and sounds like a bad idea. Just get a normal fryer

Mozart didn't have to decide whether to write music or novels. Hemingway didn't turn to writing only after his musical career failed. Artists don't shop around for an art form.
