How can I improve my endurance for exercise? I recently decided to get back in shape after several months of inactivity (which caused me to gain a few extra pounds). I’m trying to stick to the routine I used to follow (which helped me lose a lot of weight back then), but now I’m having a hard time keeping it up, not just because I’m readjusting to the physical effort it requires, but also because I often feel like skipping it and not pushing myself. I also find myself in a situation where I want to give up halfway through the routine because I’m pretty fed up and don’t want to continue, even though the routine I’m doing isn’t particularly distressing. I want to find ways to feel strong and energized before and during my workouts and build the confidence I need to know that I can get through them without losing momentum along the way. I’ve also realized that I can’t get motivated when my mood swings get in the way and make me lose all interest. That’s why I’d love to get any advice on how to build strength and improve my overall fitness.

For me, working with someone else helps. I've been going with my older brother for a while. I do however many reps I feel like, then get up and give the bench to him. He goes at it, and I rest during that time. Then he gives the bench to me, and we repeat. We go from exercise to exercise until maybe an hour or so. Having someone else also means you end up trying new things that they want to try, which keeps things interesting.

Do less thinking and more working out.

Huh. Maybe you're just not used to the routine enough yet, I'm a lazy fuck and I don't even think about skipping the gym anymore

Best advice I ever came across: Work out every day that you physically can. You obviously need your rest days, but if you do not technically need a rest day today, work out today.

Exercise, by its very nature, builds up your ability to exercise and thus your endurance. The more you do it, the easier it gets; the easier it gets, the more you can do it.

Take at least 30g protein powder daily, take creatine a while before working out. Also, just choose the pain. One day, you will reach your peak from which you can only go downhill, what level do you want to be on at your peak? If you give in to every little pain your peak gets a little lower, every workout skipped, every set half-assed, it all adds up. But likewise, putting in effort goes in the opposite direction, you build more muscle, you get more stamina, you feel accomplished for having pushed yourself, you get more results.

Another thing is people over-estimate how much your mental "energy" affects your body, your body operates on muscle and nutrition, if you have both, you can exercise well regardless of your mental "energy".

Feed yourself enough protein, creatine and sleep. Choose as much pain as you can without injury. Stretch more for recovery. Don't lose hope, your body hasn't given up on you and never will, it's a machine that does it's thing with or without you. Eventually you will start the feel the effects of your work, quicker than you think, just a few months of exercise

I struggle with this too. Eating a big breakfast that includes many boiled eggs helps with the endurance in my case. Otherwise i can get lethargic and no energy.
