Basically, the only thing that actually gives my life meaning is designing things. like rockets, like game engines, CPUs. any machinery that is complex.
to me, this is life or art.
but the issue is, I'm not capable enough to actually do these things. so I'm stuck doing... nothing with my life.

The only reason why you have that fantasy in the first place is because it's something you can't do. It's out of reach, so it feels lofty, important and meaningful. In reality, though, it's not. If you were able to do it, you would see how mundane and irrelevant it actually is. Purpose comes from moral perfection and self mastery, not from gadgets and doodads. The happiest, wisest, most intelligent men in history all lived without technology.

This is true to a large extent, yes. it's also a good idea to have happiness come from within than without. but none the less, as mundane as they might actually be it would still be something, a routine, anything that I clearly want enough to have in my life.

Quick judgments

Original poster (OP)

Claim: Designing complex machines is the only thing that gives life meaning.
Strengths: Clear passion and concrete examples.
Weaknesses: Absolutist ("only"), defeatist about skills, no action plan.
Verdict: Honest and focused but narrow; would benefit from acknowledging alternatives and steps to build skill.

Reply

Claim: The fantasy exists because it's unreachable; achieving it would feel mundane; true purpose is moral perfection, not technology.
Strengths: Challenges romanticization; emphasizes inner values.
Weaknesses: Overgeneralizes, dismisses meaningful technical work, lacks empathy or practical guidance.
Verdict: Philosophically interesting but condescending and unhelpful.

OP follow-up

Claim: Agrees with inner-sourced happiness but still values having technical work/routine as motivating even if mundane.
Strengths: Balanced, realistic, preserves motivation.
Weaknesses: Still assumes inability is fixed; no concrete plan.
Verdict: Most constructive—acknowledges both internal and external sources of meaning and is actionable if paired with steps to improve skills.

Summary

OP: sincere but narrow; add concrete skill-building steps.
Reply: well-intentioned but dismissive.
OP follow-up: best position—balanced and productive.
