Is this fucking safe?

Every fucking socket in my apartment jiggles like this.

When I push the plug in, the entire socket bends inward like playdough.

The fuck? This can't be legal. Is it?

They're sloppily installed. They can be fixed with some outlet shims between the outlet and the electrical box
>>
>>34548270
The outlet isn't fully screwed into the receptacle box. It should have no impact on safety. You can fix it yourself easily, take a screwdriver and remove the faceplate, then tighten the screws connecting the outlet to the box (there should be two, one above and one below)
>>
>>34548292
>>34548294
Okay, I'll try that.
>>
>>34548388
Be careful you don't get fried
>>
>>34548400
Oh shit
>>
>>34548402
You can maybe go turn off the electric to that switch if you flip the circut breaker for it possibly in your basement or outside. Try plugging something into the outlet to see if it works after. Still be careful tho.
>>
>>34548270
>more learned helplessness
What is broken in the zoomer mind that they film and post this instead of isolating at the consumer unit, removing the faceplate and addressing the fucking problem.
A slotted screwdriver and some proper parenting would have prevented this post.
>>
>>34549291
Yes, everyone should have their dumb single mom teach them how to fix electric sockets. I am a millennial and I'm pretty sure most of my successful friends are completely clueless when it comes to this type of thing.
>>
>>34549295
It really depresses me that
>Flip switch
>Confirm power is off
>Remove one screw
>Tighten two screws
>Replace one screw
>Flip switch
is beyond the capabilities of literal tax-paying adults.
My 80yo grandad was pulling Cat5 through his crawlspace the last time I visited lmao
>>
>>34549301
I was exaggerating a bit. I can do DIY things like fix basic plumbing and probably this type of problem but never ran in to it. But when I do, the first thing I do is google my problem/Watch a DIY handyman channel Youtube video. Maybe OP likes to go on 4chan and ask anons for advice?
>pulling Cat5 through his crawlspace
Anon did you go to a vocational school? I have no idea what that means.
>>
>>34549313
>Anon did you go to a vocational school? I have no idea what that means.
The magical cable through which the Funkopops are ordered and the yiff is delivered. The one through which you're probably talking to me now.
No, I just don't like the idea of paying an electrician £150 an hour to service a tiny apartment with ten sockets and six lights, and was taught about wiring standards and basic electrical safety in school.
>>
>>34549327
Stop being smug and condescending to OP
>was taught about wiring standards and basic electrical safety in school
That didn't happen for 90% of us, you normally need to go to a special vocational school to be taught this

And Cat5e is the standard for ethernet cables, although businesses usually use Cat6
>>
>>34549347
>Stop being smug and condescending
Electricity is pivotal to our lives in more ways than we even realise. Every home we live in in our lives will contain this infrastructure.
If OP were my friend and this were real life, I'd have dressed the words up nicely.
Given this is 4chan, I have zero incentive to do so.
I believe that ignorance to something as important as electricity and its infrastructure is shameful and should be called out as such. I believe the continual, wilful erosion in people's ability to do things in the world, and the concordant requirement for professionals to help them out is a significant contributor to the decline of society and the enshittification of the outside world.
>And Cat5e is the standard for ethernet cables
Thanks, anon. I'll ensure always to describe myself as 'pulling Cat5e' in conversation to my colleagues, that won't make me sound silly at all.
>>
>>34548270
I don't know about legality, but it's safe.
>>
>>34549347
I know what an ethernet cable is, everyone that owns a computer knows this. The terminology the other anon was using was kind of opaque. Anyways, I watched a 3 hours documentary on the history of electricity recently so if I ran in to an issue like OP I would sort of be excited to try and fix it myself lol
>>
>>34549382
Ethernet is the network encapsulation protocol, RJ45 is the connector, Cats 1-8 are standards for twisted pair cables used for all kinds of things from Ethernet to MIDI.
An 'ethernet cable' is a misnomer for a Cat5e patch cable in the same way as 'charging cable' is a misnomer for a double-ended USB-C cable.
>>
>>34549327
>£150 an hour
Oh so you're not American. Good for you.
>was taught about wiring standards and basic electrical safety in school
Yeah, they don't teach that to kids in America, dude.
>>
>>34549490
And they don't in Europe we have technical/vocational schools and even then you would have to study to be an electrician specifically.
>>34549327
What did you study during high school anon?
>>
>>34549565
>What did you study during high school anon?
English, German, maths, physics, chemistry, history, computing, PE.
Domestic wiring was superficially covered in the general science curriculum we did before we selected our exam subjects.
It included how to wire a plug/socket to BS1363, how to wire light switches and sockets, how to isolate a domestic circuit, how to safely test them, and the basics of electricity transmission and local stepdown distribution.
>>
>>34548270
Do indians really?
>>
>>34549579
That's a burger 20A socket, anon
Jeets use a bastardised version of our old BS546
>>
>>34549583
That's even funnier
>>
>>34548270
Easy fix. Using powers of deduction, I see you do not own the building. Your landlord ought to fix it, but probably won't. You can get a replacement socket for nearly no money and replace it yourself. /diy/ can show you de way.
>>
>>34549597
It just needs the housing screws tightened. They'll be into rawlplugs or something that loosen over time

I'm glad op decided to have some critical thinking and know he should get information on an electrical outlet.
Some people are upset because a simple internet search would have yielded plenty of info about what to do. They are upset because so many people just won't or don't know how to do any sort of self learning, they need another person to explain things to them.
>>34549291
>proper parenting
Anon... did you look at the video.>
>34549301
The issue wasn't that op couldn't do that, it's that he didn't know where to start.
Also lol at everyone going full retard about you saying cat5.

Purely out of curiosity in England do you get to pick your classes like Americans do? Also actually I just remembered we did have a "technology" class for one hour a week and it did sort of cover things like this but I would zone out from boredom during classes like these lol My teacher would make me stand next to the garbage bin for being human garbage xD (this was a common thing, he did this to a lot of people) like having a practical problem I can learn these things or watching like a Nikola Tesla documentary or something will make we want to learn about electricity and wiring but learning this from a textbook I would just zone out and daydream.
